Show A 4 0 Bhoti Em A Super With Elds Espore - LAYTON J.L. Dixon, someone that Laytons Recreation Director Carter Cook says, has a super rapore with kids, took home a coveted award last week. To prove just how much they love him, I could use the example of one of the kids that played on one of our 140 pound teams this year, who as an played for J.L. The kid got so close to J.L., that he actually asked his mom and dad if J.L. could baptize him. Hes loved all over because of his rapore with the kids. eight-year-o- THE HONOR was the third annual Glen Palmer Award, which best recognizes the individual who adds honor and respect to the little league coaching position. Dixon, who has been leading Layton youth in football, basketball and baseball since 1967, received the recognition last week in the citys g awards ceremony. year-endin- COOK, WHO presented the award along with Palmer, commented, The power of the award is growing, its canying its weight. Its for someone who has donated their time in an unselfish manner to Layton youth and who we think deserves a little PALMER HIMSELF, was the first recipient of the award and last year it was awarded to Layton resident, Dennis Moss. Well continue to give it each year, said Cook. But as far as this year goes, there really wasnt anyone better fitting to receive such as honor as J.L. Many might consider him at least one of the founding fathers of Layton City youth recreation. COOK FURTHER commented about Dixon, saying, The kids just dig him. ld THE PALMER award was named of course after Glen Palmer, who originally started the Little League Football program in Layton. Cook remembers Palmer as the one who went out and gathered up uniforms and started schedules, far before the Wasatch Front Football League got started. Palmer also coached basketball and baseball before retiring a few years ago because of health reasons. Palmers love for Layton youth was exemplified in many ways, including one year that he took a bunch of Layton AAU players back to West Virginia to compete in an AAU ANOTHER award presented at the awards ceremoney was the Larry Preece award which went to the youth who exemplified excellent sportsmanship and athletic talent in football. The winner of the latter award was Mike Barnes, an eighth grader at Central Junior High. Cook described Barnes as an kid that is super on and off the field. One of the Founding Fathers of Layton Recreation for youth has been J.L. Dixon, who was awarded the Glen Palmer Award last week.
