A Kmittiimg Tracker By DONETA GATHERUM - KAYSVILLE If a writer ever decides to compile a biography about the life of Dian Ramage, the literary work will include many unusual titles including ones about her career with Sperry-Univaher truck driving experiences, her business success and her cooking. Each chapter will be unique because Dian is one of the most complex and interesting people you could ever meet in person or read about. , ' ' THE SOUTHERN California native moved to Utah about 10 years ago because she was looking for work. She tried several jobs before establishing a business partnership in 1978 with two other people, Tom Ramage, (her husband) and Rosalie Eschler. The thriving business is Knit for Joy, It is located on Gentile Street in Layton between Satisfaction Center and Toms Super Save. Knit for Joy specializes in knitting and crocheting supplies and yams along with many other craft items like counted cross stitch materials, doll heads and craft booklets. DIAN DEVELOPED an interest in handwork many years before she became involved in a business. She really enjoys knitting and crocheting. Currently, she is making a set of knitted wash cloths that will withstand bleaches. Last summer, Dian knitted 17 sweaters for a Granger High School Club. She used a knitting machine but the finishing had to be done by hand. It took her about a month and a half. During one period in Dians life she worked as a long-lin- e truck driver. Her frequent trips to Wisconsin gave her an appreciation for good quality cheeses. Provolone cheese that js often expensive and hard to find, has become her favorite. Dian also has gained an appreciation and a taste for Wisconsin puddings and chocolate. c, DIANS COOKING methods, like the other aspects of her complex life, are unique. She really cooks without using recipes. Something good happens whenever she prepares food. One person remarked, Although she can cook anything, even Chinese food, her pizza is the best. Because Dian works from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily and teaches classes in knitting machines after store hours, the time she spends cooking is limited. Dian has learned to work up tasty foods fast. The base dough for her pizza is frozen bread dough, commercially pared. DIANS PIZZA PRICES EFFECTIVE JAN. GROUND BEEF pre- P Defrost frozen bread dough. Let raise. Add Provolone cheese, Jack cheese, mozerella or any other cheese you prefer. Brown the meat you use for topping and place it warm over the cheese. This melts the cheese into the sauce and crust and keeps it from burning during the baking process. Add green papper, mushrooms, onions, etc. as desired. Bake ina moderate oven until the crust starts to brown. NOW, AFTER reviewing the evidence, a physician from the Palo Alto Medical Clinic concludes that at least a portion of the changes attributed to aging are, in fact, due to the disuse of the body that is part of a sedentary life style. And, he adds, the changes are therefore preventable and correctable. He goes on to say that there is no drug in present or forseeable use that holds as much promise for sustained health as a lifetime program of physical exercise (The Journal of the American Medical Association, Vol. 248, Sept. 10, 1982). THE NEGATIVE changes that we associate with growing older are similar to the changes that occur in our bodies after long periods of physical inactivity. Burritos, prepared by Dian, can be filled with every imaginable food item. lb. BURRITOS To a can of Chili Con Came without beans add a small amount of basil, garlic and chopped Onion (optional). Heat the mixture. TO THIS simple filling base many other ingredients can be added according to individual tastes. Sweet chili sauce, cheese, salsa, hot peppers, diced potatoes, com and browned hamburger are a few of the many variations that can give special taste to the basic filling. Heat the large size tortilla shells. Place the warm filling in the center of the warm tortilla shell. Add raw diced onion bits, if desired. Fold the shell over the filling. There is no need to heat the burrito in an oven because all the ingredients are warmed before the burrito is assembled. WOK COOKING is appealing to Dian because it is quick and it uses vegetables. Stir fry vegetables can use whatever is on hand. Dian mixes brocolli, sugar snap peas, carrots, peppers, onions and mushrooms. She serves the stir-fr- y combination with rice and a little soy sauce for seasoning. The important thing about wok cooking is not to overcook the vegetables. Use It Or Risk Losing It How many times have you heard use it or lose it? You better believe it, thats the way life is. The exercise scientists have known this for a long time. 198-3LEAN Western Family 8 oz. Small Red Rome deterioration in the cardiovascular and other important systems in the body. The blood pressure goes up, capacity to use oxygen goes down, blood fat levels go up, body fat increases, muscle mass decreases, bones become brittle, the body's chemical function deteriorate, periods of depression increase, and the brains capacity to function on a high level decreases. THE GREAT architect of the human body designed it for activity and we, on the other hand, appear to do everything possible to make our lives as easy and as comfortable as we can. We have gotten to the point where we have to manufacture our activity to meet the bodys requirements for health and fitness. It isnt built in naturally for most of us. And, unfortunately, not everyone wants to accept the personal responsibility of being physically active on a regular basis. You came into mortality kicking and screaming and, for a while, your parents accepted the responsibility for your physical health. Now, if you are far enough along to read this column, that time has ended, so get off your duff and use it or lose it. Free agency gives you the right to choose.
