Warren Harding, in office just over two years, from March 1923, when he died, was presented with boquet of flowers on visit to Layton by Elizabeth Simmons. Harding traveled through Davis County en route to Salt Lake from Ogden on June 26, 1923 but the story of President Harding and his association with Davis County people really began in 1920. The body of the article said President Harding and his traveling companions would leave Ogden at 9:25 a.m. the morning of June 26 and arrive in Salt Lake at 1 a.m. They w'ould make no stops but would travel at speeds of m.p.h. so all who wished could see the President. 1 0 THE NEWSPAPER article said, It is suggested that Reflex-Journ- Layton to receive a basket of flowers from a little girl dressed in white. IT WAS late evening when Mayor Ellison reached home and told his wife, Katie, the exciting news th President Harding would stop in Layton. Because there was no time to do differently, Mayor Ellison chose his daughter, Elizabeth (Tibby) to present the flowers to President and Mrs. Harding. TIBBY HAD no white dress to wear for the occasion so her mother, Katie Ellison, took down a white lace curtain and started sewing. The dress was just finished in time for Tibby to put it on and hurry up Gentle Street to Main Street where she was to greet the Presidential cortage.
