Show DAVIS COUNTY CLIPPER, AUGUST 13, 1980 SOUTH DAVIS ADVERTISER, AUGUST 13, 1980 Davis County Fair Originated in 1925 womens handiwork, and canning and baking exhibits were held. But one of the main events of that early1 celebration was a horsepulling contest. This years Davis County Fair will be the 53rd fair staged in the county. And it should be the best one yet. IT ALL BEGAN back in very small scale, yet a fair has been held every year since, e.v.ept for two years during World War II, according to a history kept by the late Nichols, who was the county agent when the first one was held. That first event was a Farm Bureau Days and was held at the old Lagoon 1925 on a FOR THE next 15 years, a similar event was held. Then in 1940 Howdy Days was held at Lagoon and that was the first time an art exhibit was included in the exhibits. The fair was growing and by 1955 it was being held at the Davis High School with the exhibits being displayed in the agricultural department. There was a queen De-Lo- dance pavilion. WE ALSO plan to have a totally enclosed, 22 calibre rifle range with a full tertaining of the county 's 53 fairs, yet. f THE UTAH National Guard, who normally have a display of weaponry, will have a few added attractions this year. To get the fair underway on Saturday, Aug. 23, the National Guardsmen plan to arrive at 9 a. m. in a Cobra jet helicopter, landing at the site of the rest of their display. The unusual helicopter will then remain on display in back of the i vi regulation range, on display for to try, Ray..
