Football players go the college route then wait for that magic moment to hear their name called in the annual NFL draft Basketball players do likewise, unless they feel they aren't making enough money in college and decide to go the hardship route BUT THE baseball people to college They like to get dont like the players i next with a 3 maik whi't OBrien Glass still has a si at the tournament with a 4 record Bills Piano and O'Brien square off this Mon day in the best g ime The Saturdav night It at ut is fighting for two spots in t!i' tournament and a two team-rac- e has started to brew between the Bountiful Bowl team and the Softhalh rs The Bowl club is undefeated wit a record with the Soft bailers right behind at rv! Ive seen tryouts where the first thing they do is line them all up and time them in the 60 yard dash If they dont get under 6 2 seconds they send them home right then regardless of what they do in the other categories, added Phil The throwing arm is obvious being the players strength in getting the ball to wherever it is they want it stmt Power is talking about the long ball hitter and hitting ability is simply hitting for average BY SPEED they MANY PFOPLE think that hitting would be first but the big clubs philosophy is that they can teach a youngster how to hit So if you have a youngster who is fast, has a great throwing arm, hits 50 home runs a year and hits 700 he stands a fair chance of playing major league baseball, providing he doesnt go to college first I " 80 BD dll y y U 8-- JOHN Pi f.ram M1LIER, June 29 - July the d. rector of the citv leagues, ha-- indicated that the leagues are all very compHitue from top to bottom and that the tournaments , at the 1 in lie c nd wdl be a fight to the finish with anv of the clubs f ipat .e of wmn ng SsLJJ AJL-18PJ- CLOSES Bountiful Scott Wallace: in Ail-St- ar Scott Wallace, son of Mr and Mrs Gerald E Wallace of 821 West 100 North, ( In ton, has had an exciting week and a half in Phoenix, A r iz , where he participated m All Stars basketball games THEY TOOK place at the Brophy gymnasium in Phoenix These were high school players who were selected earlier at their schools as being the most Game his return home for Rawlins, W vo , w here he will be employed during the summer months as partner has been offered scholarships at several colleges and junior colleges vsb part-tim- with his father Phono 295-238- 4 SUNDAY states Scott was selected as the most outstanding player from Clearfield High School in his senior year He also participated in high jumping and ended with a score of six feet eight inches.
