In order to repair the section the authorization of the council was needed. The council decided the money for repair work would come out of fees collected from Freeport water system. BURGLARS By EZRA T. CLARK President Davis County Bank As the days get shorter, the list of burglaries gets longer. Thats the traditional ratio involving such crimes in America. Thats also despite the recent trend of many burprofessional in work to glars broad daylight, sometimes backing up a van in the driveway and boldly cleaning out a EZRA T. ClARK home, carrying away TV sets, stereos, and antiques as well as money, cameras, watches, furs, jewelry and other valuables. Whenever you answer a ringing telephone at your house and theres nolxxly on the line, you should susxct that a burglar is easing the neighborhood. Hes getting the pattern of safe" hours when nobodys home at your house. An unanswered telephone call tells the burglar what he wants to know. When you do answer the phone, he doesnt say a word so that later you will be unable to identify his voice. This information comes from law enforcement officers, who also have a number of suggestions to help you discourage burglary at your house. Im going to list seven of these suggestions as a checklist versus burglars. 1. Check to see that youve locked all doors (including the garage) when you leave the house. Take the key. Never leave a key under the doormat or hidden near the door. Make sure and you have good window locks that they are locked! 2. Never leave a note on the door. Its like a billboard advertising your absence. 3. If you'll be gone from the house, after nightfall, turn on several lights inside the house before you go. Better yet. buy a timer that will turn them on for you at the right hours. (Plug it into a radio, too.) 4. If youre leaving on a long trip or vacation, notify the police and neighbors. Stop newspapers and mail deliveries or have a neighbor pick them up daily. Have someone rake the leaves and cut the grass. 5. Dont publish your address in wedding notices or obituaries. The cruel fact is that burglars often strike when a bereaved family is at a funeral. Ask a neighbor to babysit your house at times like these. 6. Be a good neighbor. Help protect If you see your neighborhood. someone suspicious at your neighbors house while they are away, get the license number of the ear and call the police. 7. Check to see that youre not keeping too many valuables at home. Large amounts of cash should be protected in a savings account completely secure while it works for you drawing interest. Expensive jewelry should he protected in a safety deposit box. (We can be of service to you in - both cases.) |
