I did see a few women there who werent wearing tee shirts at all. They apparently were making fashion statements having to do with body paint. It was quite interesting, but neither my wife, nor my sister, seemed interested in making any similar statements. Looking at tne motorcycles was great entertainment. There were a zillion of them parked on both sides and in the middle of the closed off street called The Strand. The bikes were beautiful and people were personable. (1 could say that the people were beautiful and the bikes were personable, but it wouldnt be nearly as accurate.) ' The bikers were truly well behaved and friendly. I saw many more overtly Christian bikers than any other variety there. Whod o thunk it? It occurred to me that Sanpete could comfortably host a similar event on a smaller scale. So, now you know what rekindled my interest in motorcycles again. Next time Im at a rally, I want to be on a motorcycle wearing a tee shirt that reads, Free as the Wind or something bikerish (many tee shirt sentiments I saw probalbly shouldnt be shared with you here), instead of Switzerland. Then again, given my glacial movement through my mid-lif- e crisis, I may only have the tee shirt and not the bike. Heck -- 1 Im working just Maybe dont know. I have often said that I cant afford to buy a motorcycle. But, I suppose thats technically not true since I just loaned my son the money for one. Of course he bought an older, used one. If he asked for the money to buy one like some of my Sanpete friends ride, Id pretend I didnt hear the request. I know several Sanpete guys (and gals) who have made the pilgrimage to Sturgis, South Dakota for the big annual motorcycle rally. Its like the mother of all motorcycle gatherings. For a owner, its the rite of passage into being a genuine biker. Im not sure that Ill ever make it to Sturgis. Im not sure that Ill ever actually own a Harley. But Im fairly confident that I absolutely will, just maybe, someday be a motorcycle owner. As sure as the sun will come up tomorrow, I just might. The symbolism is linked to how slowly a glacier moves. (His eventually ended up with the bike.) My interest was renewed in motorcycles this past weekend. Due to stumbling onto a bargain air fare, we took a spur of the moment trip to Houston for a long weekend visit with my sister and her husband. Happenstancedly (dont try to find that word in the dictionary), we found ourselves in Galveston during the annual Lone Star Motorcycle Rally. I know its not Sturgis, but it was an impressive event. Thousands of people are attracted (and some happenstancedly arrive) to the event. Even though we werent really dressed (or undressed) for the occasion, we wandered and gawked. I was wearing a tee shirt, which my daughter had given me, which had Switzerland printed on it. It didnt really fit in with what most everyone else was wearing.
