At the JV level, runners competed on a two-mil-e grass course over the grounds of the high school. Varsity relay teams consisted of five runners, each running the same two mile course tor a total of 10 miles completed for the team. North Sanpete High School teams this year all competed in the JV races in order to more closely simulate the challenges of racing against a large field at once. In the girls race, junior Rebecca Boekweg paced the Lady Hawk runners with a 33rd place finish in 15:16. A third place finisher last year in Region, she appears to be one 01 the leaders among this years experienced team. Following in second for the Lady Hawks was freshman Sylvia Bedford, placing 43rd in the large field of 169 runners. The veteran Heather Garlick followed close behind with teammates Toni Garlick, Amy Boekweg and gent. The team's highlight of the day proved to be an overall win in the JV Boys race by Bryce Carr. With a strong finish, he outkicked rivals from various 3A, 4A and 5A programs to take the win in 11:25. Senior teammate Eric Heywood looks to be the 2 runner on the team as he placed 41st in 12:26. The remaining top five 10-pl- ay 13-ya- rd derson set up an eight-yarblast by Cnurch for the Score, and Kyle Poulsons PAT cut the lead to five. The Templars have apparently reloaded after graduating several key players off of last year's squad, and underclassmen make up the bulk of this years roster. Cole Meacham begins his fifth year as head coach. The Beavers brought a win against Milford and a number five ranking into the game, but couldn't match the size and speed of the Templars, who rolled e to a 28-lead behind the leadership of senior quarterback Taylor Salanoa. He finished the game with two rushing touchdowns and also threw two Tds, one to Devin Frischnecht and the other to Richard Newton. Kyle Hatch scored the Templar's other touchdown, a five yard run that opened the scoring in the first quarter. The Templars are now idle until a Sept. 10 matchup at home against The Grand top-rank- 0 25-1- 7, 25-1- ht 7. They traveled to Salt Lake City for a game against Rowland Hall last Thursday, Aug. 26, then played in a tournament at Juan Diego High School in Draper on Friday. Against Rowland Hall, the Lady Templars played what Squire called a scrappy" match. After getting down two games to none, then rallying to tie the score Manti's comeback fell short as the Winged Lions won the deciding firth game. At the five team Juan Diego Tournament, the Templars played well but failed to score a win against some tough competition, losing to schools Park City and Ben Lomond. The Templars teams also fell to fellow Juan Diego and Juab. Squire says her young team is showing a lot of improvement and she looks forward to a rematch with Juab later this week.
