Show February 19. 2004 - The Pyramid - Page Five Biatitralon Scout winners announced by Ray LaFollette MT. PLEASAN- T- On a beautiful sunny day, several boys and leaders met at the Millers Flat turnoff in Huntington Canyon. Dr. Dwight Inouye brought snowmobiles and with help from other leaders and the county Search and Rescue snow-cat- s, they quickly groomed and set up the race course complete with three shooting stations. Meanwhile Kim Spaulding, Mt. Pleasant North LDS Stake, got all the teams registered and the score keep- ing organized. The moment arrived when the first racer left to begin his run of the course. The first racer was Zac Seeley, Mountainville. He is a veteran of this event and came with the determination to win regardless of what the odds were. The course was about 2.8 miles long and had downhill and uphill grades which at times were difficult. Thirty minutes and forty seconds later, Zac Seeley crossed the finish line. It was a record time. When asked how he did it he said he ran all the way and didnt miss any of the targets when shooting. If he had missed targets, he would have had to ski a short penalty loop for each miss. Eventually all the participants finished the race and the trophies and medallions were awarded. The fastest individual awards for Varsity Scouts went to Paul Fife, Manti Fourth LDS Ward, bronze, with a time of 46:17; Travis Dyreng, Gunnison First LDS Ward, silver, 34:02; and Brandon Beck, Mt. Pleasant First LDS Ward, gold, 33:18. Fastest individual awards for Venture Scouts went to Tyler Richardson, Manti Fourth LDS Ward, bronze, 33:11; Aaron Inouye, Gunnison First LDS Ward, silver, 32:02; and Zac Seeley, Mountainville LDS Ward, gold, with a time of 30:40. It was determined that the fastest Varsity Team Trophy would go to the Manti Fourth LDS Ward with a combined and averaged time of 54:35. The fastest Venture Crew Trophy went to Mt. Pleasant First LDS Ward, for the second year in a row, with a combined and averased time of 35:12. It should be noted that the same three boys that won it last year were the same team this year. Brandon Beck, Hyrum Lott, and Travis Olsen. Klondike derby scheduled Feb 20,21 FAIRVIEW All Boy Scout Units in the area are looking forward to the annual Klondike, scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20 and Saturday, Feb. 21, on Skyline Drive in Fairview Canyon. The planned event will include sled races, snow snake competition, knots, snowshoe racing and medical treatment of an injured snow boarder. There should be plenty of snow for snow caves this year. However, there are a few safety reminders for anyone camping in winter, such as never light or use a stove inside a tent or snow shelter. A tent may catch fire and a snow shelter may help lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. Neither of these potential mishaps is worth the risk: Snow is a terrific insulator and snow shelters are much warmer than tents because they retain heat and keep out the cold wind. If there is adequate time to build a snow shelter, it will be more comfortable than sleeping in a tent. Feb. 11 Dallas J. Thomson, Ephraim, was arrested in Manti by the Sanpete County Sheriff's Department on two charges of burglary. Booked and released for court. Activities on the Sanpete county Booking report are as follows: Feb. 10 Richard L. McKay, Holladay, was arrested in Mt. Feb. 12 Edward Ross Maes, St. Sanpete County Sheriffs Department on a Sixth District Court Warrant. Bail was set at $6,500. bv Michael Styler SALT LAKE CITY--Hell- o again! There is about two weeks left in the session and still quite a few important bills to push through the legislature. Sponsored Bills include Property Tax Levy for Education - House Bill 230. This bill sets a minimum basic property tax rate. The reason why this is important is because as the value of property goes up, the tax rate goes down. Therefore, education is getting less and less money each year.
