Show December P er win bowl same 27-2- the ninth annual Golden Isle Bowl. The Snow College Badgers improved their bowl game record to 2 with the win and finished the season with a 1 record. 65-ya- rd 8-- 19-ya- rd 9-- The Badgers came on the Badgers next two possessions. The Bulldogs were having plenty of their own problems as they missed a field goal after the first interception and fumbled after the second. The next possession was the best of the afternoon for Snow College. Jason Coutts drive engineered a that was highlighted by a pass to Justin Walker with 9:48 left in the fourth quarter and the game was tied at 21. Coutts finished the day with 282 yards passing. "We told ourselves at halftime that we could have a chance, but we had to quit shooting ourselves in the foot," said Coutts. Both teams had opportunities before the end of regulation, but both teams had drives that ended in punts. The Badgers had their third interception and the Bulldogs had a blocked field goal. "If you look at the stats, you can see how close this game was," said Kilts. "They are a very good team with a lot of talent. " GMC had the ball first in overtime and couldnt manage a first down as the Badger defense dominated in the second half. A sack on third down took the Bulldogs out of field started strong as the defense forced a fumble on GMCs first possession and gave the ball to the offense on their own line. The offense used a combination of plays to get to the end zone, capped off by a pass by Jason Coutts to Ryan Campbell. The success was shortlived however as the Badgers didnt see the end zone again until late in the third quarter. "I cant say I was really too worried," said Head Coach Jeff Kilts. "Our defense was playing really well. Our offense struggled at times, but I didnt give up on them either, this is a mature team." In between the first and second Snow College scores, the Bulldogs were building confidence and a lead. The first touchdown came after a march on the GMC second possession of the game. A Badger fumble gave the ball back to the Bulldogs at line and GMC the it into the end took promptly zone and their 'first lead of the game at 14-"We had some turnovers that made this a lot tougher shouldve game than it said "The deKilts. been," fense played great. They only gave up one drive and the other two touchdowns were almost handed to them by our mistakes." The next Snow College possession also resulted in a fumble but by the time it was recovered by the Bulldogs, it was a touchdown and the Badgers were looking at a 21-- 7 deficit. Snow College dodged one of many bullets when GMC ran out of time while attempting a field goal to end the half. The second half proved to be kinder to the Badgers, but it wasnt without a challenge. The offense struggled on the first possession of the second half, but the defense forced the third GMC fumble and the offense took the ball 37 yards on seven plays to get within seven at 21-1- 4 with 4:58 left in the third 49-ya- rd 19-ya- nt 64-ya- rd 50-ya- rd 7. quarter. Gordon Reid punched it in from just one yard out. "We never went into panic mode," said Kilts. "We went in to the locker room down 14 at the half and told them if there was anyone who didnt think we could score 21 in the second half to stay in the locker room." Snow College avoided the fumble problem they had in the first half, but they threw three interceptions in the second half, two of them more. 7 goal range and an incomplete pass on fourth down prolonged the agony for the Bulldog fans. "Our defense has played great all year," said Golden Isle Bowl MVP Dustin Schr-oade- r. "It just came together for us in the second half." Snow College took possession and moved methodically over the 25 yards capping the overtime victory on a four-yar- d scamper by Coutts. The Badgers capped an amazing comeback after spotting the Bulldogs to the lead and then scor20 ing straight points for the nt win. "This has been a great season with a great group of players," said Kilts. "Its hard to put into words just how great this year has been. I always felt like we were going to win every game we played. These players just had the confidence and the ability to do whatever it took to win. Good players, but more importantly they are good three.
