Show Page Six - The Pyramid - December 29, 1999 NSHS names Sterling Scholars Barbara Gordon named member of IIMC Academy SAN DIMAS, CA Barbara Gordon, CMC, recorder and clerk of Moroni City Corporation, has been accepted as a member in the Academy for Advanced Education of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). The academy is the professional body of municipal clerks who have continued their level of education achievement beyond the attainment of the prestigious Certified Municipal Clerk Award. Mary Lou Rand, CMC, IIMC president, town clerk and assistant town manager of Gamer, NC, stated she was honored to welcome Gordon as a member in the Academy for Advanced Education, and said she is dedicated to municipal service and an inspiration to all members of the profession. To become a member of the Academy a person must first attain the IIMC certification (CMC) designation, attend a minimum of 30 hours of graduate courses at an IIMC recognized clerks institute or municipal similar educational complete programs relating to the responsibilities of the municipal clerks office. Specific professional participation must be achieved, such as leadership in national and state associations, attendance at seminars and conferences, and professional writings and accomplishments. To date, approximately 15 percent of over 10,000 members of the IIMC have qualified for the academy status. Gordon has been employed with the city of Moroni since PLEASAN- T- MT. North Sanpete High School recently senior announced outstanding 1999-200- 0 Sterling Scholars. Students are judged on scholarship, citizenship, leadership and Character. Winners and runners-u- p from the central Utah area will be announced in the Spring. Applicants are Marci Earl, daughter of Larry Earl, Fairview, family and consumer sciences; Jacob Robison, son of Mike and Cyndi Robison, Fairview, mathematics; Kaylon Blackburn, son of Casey Blackburn, Moroni, computer and information technology; Wendi Carr, daughter of Melvin and Terri Carr, Mt. Pleasant, general scholarship; Osmer Beck, son of Chad and Jacquelyn Beck, Spring City, visual arts; October 1994, where she serves in the position of recorder and clerk. She completed the Municipal Clerks Institute conducted by the Continuing Education and Community Services, Weber State University, in Ogden and received her CMC designation in September 1997. Continuing her professional education, she has completed IIMC-approvAcademy Prooffered through Weber grams State University and Seminars sponsored by the Utah Department of Commerce. Active in professional affiliations she is a member of the Board of Directors of the Utah Municipal Clerks Association and member of the Utah Business License Association. She has been a member of the IIMC since December 1994 and serves on the IIMC Resource and Information Center Committee. Brittanie Kellett 3-oi- i-3 standings Brian Watson Highway patrol honors officers RICHFIEL- D- Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) Section 10 personnel recently held an annual Awards Chrisimas Party at the Road Creek Inn, in Wayne County- The following officers were recognized for accomplishments during the previous year. Section 10 comprises three districts in a area including Sanpete, Sevier, Wayne, Piute, Garfield, and Kane, with a total of 17 troopers. Denis Avery Trooper Denis Avery was recognized as the Section 10 Trooper of the Year. As a veteran of the UHP he has been successful in drug interdiction enforcement for the past 10 years and has led the section in drug arrests and seizures for 1999. ty 20-ye- ar Society grateful for help MT. Pleasant Pioneer Historical Association Board appreciates the volunteers who have made it possible to open the Pioneer Museum Relic Hall on Fridays and Saturdays during the past few months. Saw Avery has shared expertise in this area with law enforcement agencies throughout the country by providing training in enforcement. He is a member of and supervises the UHP Honor Guard and has received many honors throughout his career, including the Department of Public Safety Star. Avery is revered as a leader by peers and supervisors and has devoted his career to enforcing the laws of the state as well as serving the public. Lieutenant Keith Squires stated that he has been impressed with Trooper Averys work ethic, "I can count on Denis to be handling every incident that he encounters with the utmost professionalism. " Doug Tenney District A Trooper of tire Year was awarded to Trooper Doug Tenney for efforts in going well beyond the normal scope of the job to serve the public and better himself as an officer. Tenney took the initiative on his own time to learn fingerprint classification techniques which led to the solving of an homicide case. traffic and the enforcement, attitude he brings to the job. He is also involved with AIMS, a computer program used in diagraming fatal and serious accident scenes. Keller is constantly complimented by the public and other agencies for work ethic and makes himself readily available to serve the public and other law enforcement agencies whenever possible.
