Show Mav 12. 1999 - Pyramid Recreation Guide - Page 17 Museum offers something for everyone historic portrait ptures, by Deanna Pate The skeleton of a tall Columbian mammoth, two and art, miniature carriages, pioneer furnishings and farm equipment from the 1800s are just a portion of what visitors may enjoy when they come to the Fairview Museum of History and Art located in central Utah at 65 North 100 East in Fairview. Summer hours for the museum are Monday through Saturday, 10 to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 2 to 6 p.m. For further information contact the museum at (435) 427- 9216 or ncmackayburg- oyne.com. The museum consists of two and an outdoor display, The Heritage building, which was closed last year when funds were to replace the roof of the building, was an elementary school built in 1900. The original roof profile was restored and the exterior trim design matches what was on the building originally. The now building houses many pioneer artifacts 14-fo- ct three-dimensi- ed folkart, a hall, textiles and the exquisite Lyndon Grahm miniature coaches and carriages collection, The Horizon Building was new to the complex in 1995. Peering tall windows through the s the replica of the skeletal remains of a Columbian mammoth that was unearthed a few years ago not far from Fairview. "Works On Paper By Utah Artist," a traveling exhibit by the Utah Arts Council will be on display from May 7 through June 4. The Black Hawk, a new exhib- it, will be permanently housed at the Museum. Early horse drawn equipment is part of the exterior 30-fo- ot exhibit. Avard Fairbanks sculptures may be found in both the tage and Horizon buildings. His famous sculpture of Peter and Celestia Peteron, a national shrine to "Love and Devotion", is one of the pieces Fairview is privileged to have. along with his Mormon sacred works, and his works of Abraham Lincoln, depicting various stages of Lincoln's life. There are also changing exhibits at the museum year round. There is no charge to visit the museum, but donations are gladly accepted.
