Elann Romney, David Barlow to make temple vows SPRINGVILLE-- - Marshall and Luana Romney announce the marriage of their daughter, Elann, to David Barlow, son of Brent and Sylvia Barlow, Mt. Pleasant, on Friday, June 12, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. An open house will be held in their honor that evening at the Mt. Pleasant Stake Center, 295 South State, from 7 to 9 p.m. A reception will be held Saturday, June 13, in the LDS Church at 1965 East Canyon Road, Springville, from 7 to 9 p.m. The bride is a graduate of Provo High School and is currently attending Snow College. The bridegroom is a graduate of North Sanpete High School. He served in the California Santa nmM Rosa LDS Mission. They will make their home in Ephraim while they continue their studies at Snow College. Pleasant, will celebrate his Susan Holly, daughter of Jim and Marlene Holley, Fountain Green, and former residents of Alpine, will graduate from Snow College, Saturday, June 13. PLEASAN- T- Winners Child Abuse Prevention Team (CAT) coloring contest received gift certificates and other prizes from Jensens Department Store. Mike Barclay, South Sanpete School District board member and Kay Jensen, child abuse prevention specialist, presented awards. First place winner was James Allen Geloff, second place was Annalee Peterson, and third place was Brenden Palmer. CAPT has given presentations on child abuse prevention and family violence throughout the state. In the past 18 months this group has given over 200 presentations and reached over 10,000 people of all ages. grandchildren. Arlea taught many years at Ephraim Elementary and Middle schools, before becoming the first lady principal in the North Sanpete School District. She was the principal of Spring City Elementary School. During these years she also became an authority on local history and has been instrumental in preserving and maintaining historical structures . and artifacts in both Spring City and Ephraim. In 1995 Arlea was chosen as Utahs Mother of the Year and traveled extensively through Utah promoting the values associated with motherhood and strong families. Demont began his family and professional life as an English teacher at Manti High School, where he also supervised the publication of "The Manti Templar, and sponsored speech and debate activities. For five years he was principal of the Ephraim Elementary and Ephraim Junior High schools, before completing his PhD and becoming professor of English, speech and philosophy at If' Snow College. During his years at Snow, Demont also coached debate, supervised publication of "The Snowdrift", coached forensics and held several administrative responsibilities. Miss Sanpete SANPETE CO During the past year Miss Sanpete County, Katie Anderson, has spent time with children reading books and ' sharing her love of reading. She encourages children and parents to do fun things this summer including reading together. According to Anderson, "The U.S. Commission on Reading wrote in Becoming a Nation of Readers that primary grade students spend around seven or eight minutes per day reading. This study also found that more than half of read only four minutes per day or less." She states that Sanpete County children can do better than the national average. "If you want to contribute to your childs success in a most lasting way, encourage the love of reading," Anderson says. She encourages parents to read in front of their children and most importantly read to their kids no matter what age they are. After teaching childrens literature for 12 years as an evening instructor for Snow College, Arlea contributed her collection of childrens books to the college library to create a holding sufficient to teach childrens literature as a regular part of the college curriculum. They have further committed themselves to purchasing and donating to the library such new childrens literature books as might become available and useful in that program.
