Lady Badgers win four games, in 1st place in conference play by Ken Beazer MSnow College unleashed a hitting spree on North Idaho College last weekend, sweeping all four games from the Lady Cardinals, rocketing themselves into first place in the SWAC with a 0 conference record. Granted, last weekend only marked the opening of conference play, and there are plenty of games left to nullify any impulse to become giddy. But, the Lady Badgers were the only conference team to emerge from the weekend without a blemish on their record. Though cold, wet weather is supposed to favor pitching, the four game series against NIC brought out the best in the Lady Badgers bats. Snow College pounded NICs pitching staff all weekend, ripping 40 hits, 13 for extra bases, and scoring 30 runs. Game one established the Lady Badgers prowess early when Teri Thomas led off the game with a single and was brought around to score one pitch later on Misty Murrays RBI single. He took second place in the 200m, running it in 21.20 seconds and second in the 400m (14 mile) running in 51.14. Nelson qualified for state in all three events. He was awarded the trophy for Outstanding Male Athlete for scoring the most points. The next home meet will be Tuesday, April 14 at 3 p.m. Given a 0 lead after one inning. Tiffany Homedew kept NIC in a hole the rest of the way, striking out seven Lady Cardinals, pacing Snow to an 5 victory. Thomas, Murray and Janae Forsey all put together multiple hits for Snow, led by Murrays three hits and two RBIs. Game two was a blow-ou- t. Thomas again got things going for the Lady Badgers in the first inning with a single, unleashing a that ended in a 0 Lady Badger route. The hitting assault produced two home runs in the second inning, one by Murray, followed by a monster blast off the bat of Carly Garner. Murray, Kelly Borich and Mindy Dibb each collected two hits. Despite all the distractions, the Lady Badgers took game three in the eighth inning when Murray brought Thomas in to score with a two-osingle. Thomas, Murray, Borich and Garner combined for nine of the Lady Badgers 12 hits and scored seven of their nine runs. Mandy Morrison and Jensen the pitching duties, striking out eight batters while allowing only three walks, pacing Snow to their third win in as many tries. Game four marked the first time in the series that Thomas failed to reach first base, but other than that, the end result was the same: another Lady Badger victory.
