The Region 8 tournament at Snow College was one of the highlights of the season. North Sanpete took first place in all positions, to sweep the region title. They also took fifth place at State behind Ogden. Dixie, Pmeview and Park City. . PLEASANT-- - 6-- 2, 2. 2, 6-- 1. 0-- 6, The championship match found her pitted against Carly Davis of Emery. With the determination and work she has shown all year, 6-- 1 to she won the match take the region championship. At state, Amy received a bye the first round which set up a Bree-an- e quarter final match against Pye from Uintah High. The match was extremely close with a lot of fine tennis shots. Amy played her best match of the season against Pye. With a variety of shots, mental toughness. perseverance and strong competitive attitude, she came out on top s, she met a In the strong player from Pineview High School and lost her first match of the season. Amy finished in third place at State. Lee Ann Slack, who played second singles, also had a fine record going into region with a 12 and 3 record. She played 6-- 3. semi-final- 7-- 6. ls 6-- 3. 6-- 2, 6-- 1. Amy Ericksen, who played first singles, finished league play with a perfect 11 and 0 record. She met Tosha Palmer of Delta in the first round at region and won 6-- 2, some of her best tennis at region. She defeated Megan Blake from Delta High in the first round 6-The finals were equally as easy. She used a variety of ground strokes, lobs, and volleys to defeat Sherie Rowley of Rich1 to win the region field 6-championship at second singles. At State, Lee Ann also received a bye the first round, and met Angie Urry of Lehi High in the quarter finals. Playing the best match of her career, she defeated In Angie by a score of 6-she met Katie the semi-finaPayne from Dixie High. Lee Ann 0-- 6 to finish in was defeated third place. Teresa White played third singles for most of the season, finishing regular season play with a 10 and 3 record. Teresa entered the region tournament as the second place seed. She played extremely well against Heidi Jensen from Richfield High, 4 to put her into winning 6-the finals. The finals saw her pitted against Kozue Kanaya from Emery High who had defeated Teresa just the week before in her final league match. Teresa, with a lot of determination and some great tennis skills, defeated Kanaya 6-- 2 in the finals to take first place despite being very sick with a blood disorder. Teresa was set to go to State, but the doctor suggested not to until they found out her exact illness. The program is set up for students enrolled in participating Utah schools with an academic based honor roll system. Qualifying students will keep all pass privileges as long as they maintain their schools honor roll status. North Sanpete Middle and High school students must have a 3.5 GPA for each quarter grading period. This is not cumulative, it ' is for quarter grades only. For example, if a high school freshman qualifies for the schools honor roll for the first quarter, that student will be rewarded with a season pass at The Canyons for the rest of the season. If that same student falls below the schools honor roll status second quarter, the pass privilege will be revoked until the student is back to honor roll status, 3.5 GPA per quarter. Morgan came out on top of a very hard fought match by a score of Holly Hansen and Mary Jane Parnell anchored the second doubles the entire year accumulating a record of 12 wins and three loses. They were seeded 1 going into the region tourney and lived up to that expectation. In their first round match, they defeated Kim Hayes and Angela 6-Shmidt of Delta High 6-The finals saw an excellent match pitting them against Subrina Westwood and Tara Livingston from Emery High. Holly and Mary Jane played one of their best matches in defeating Emery 6-- 3 to win their region championship. At State, they met Stephanie Carter and Shaylyn Calton from Lehi who had already defeated them twice.
