The Sanpete effort in program, a three-phacoordination with the Utah Attorney Generals Office safe at home programs, will be available to numerous groups and individuals for the purpose of educating youth, parents and concerned citizens. Those interested in more information or scheduling a presentation should contact Kay 1 or Jensen, The youth violence and gang prevention campaign includes a prevention video aimed at parents to provide them with a clear indication of how to recognize gang activity involvement in their child A course of action is suggested for parents who feel that their child might be involved in such activities. The program also includes child abuse and prevention information to inform young children how to act in public to avoid being injured or abducted by strangers. "Stranger Smart," is designed to open discussion between parents and children regarding safety outside the home. Anti-violen- se Winners of Mt. Pleasant Elementary School 1997 Spelling Bee Contest are (1 to r): Torie Simons, first place, sixth grade; Ben McKenzie, second place, fourth grade; Billy Peters, third place, sixth grade; and Rebecca Fowles, fourth place and alternate, sixth grade. 835-313- 835-817- 1. ous topics. All three include training and parents guides. Sixty-fiv- e presentations are proposed within the grant period which ends June 30. The Sanpete campaign is designed to prevent anti-violen- criminal activity and to assist potential victims to avoid being targeted by criminals. "It is more effective to prevent youth violence before it occurs than to try and treat if after," Mrs. Jensen said. Fairview planning commission discusses license requirements by Sabrina E. Haycock WThe planning and zoning commission continued a discussion concerning ordinance reform of license requirements for business and home occupations at a Feb. 6 meeting. Richard Green, zoning administrator, presented a possible base for consideration after researching neighboring areas such as FAIRVIE- Ephraim, Mt. Pleasant and Spanish Fork. Reform is needed since past ordinances were lengthy and involved redundant excessive details or to the other extreme of being too general and vague, causing confusion among residents as well as city officials concerning the needs of licenses and operating requirements for both businesses and home occupation. Business leports across the country have stated that home occupations are well on the rise and becoming more accepted as technological advances continue. In a town the size of Fair-viethis offers new challenges as small independent business and spare time hobbies appear close to equal. Proof of the need for ordinance clarifications is shown with a number of residents applying for licenses in both small business and home occupations as well as others who are unsure if they need to do so. Discussions and plans will continue at the next meeting to be held March 6, at 7:30 p.m. Crib Corner FOUNTAIN GREE- N- Brandon and Amy Ivory announce the birth of their son, Cameron Clair Ivory, on Jan. 30, 1997, Sanpete Valley Hospital.
