Show Page Four - The Pyramid - October 2, 1996 Snows football team wins 4th consecutive game with victory over Phoenix, 49-1- 6 by Ken Beazer After EPHRAI- M- three consecutive close victories. Snow College removed all doubts about their ability to blow away opponents by crushing Phoenix CC, 49-1- 6 at home in front of another large crowd at Badger Stadium. Folks, the game wasnt even that close. The Badger offense amassed well 518 yards of total offense while the defense harassed Phoenix all afternoon, forcing four turnovers, and returning an interception 60 yards for a touchdown. The game was far from scintillating but the margin of victory was welcome, and it gave coach Uperesa and his staff a chance to preview the future by substituting freely in the third quarter. Unfortunately for Phoenix, sending in the second and third string units didnt assuage the onslaught. In all, thirteen offensive players recorded at least one reception, and nine more had at least one rushing attempt. Things got rolling early for Snow when Riley Jensen found Matt Webb in the comer of the end zone with 4:34 left in the first quarter. Not wanting to be left out of the scoring, the Badger defense got into the action when Byron Holt grabbed a deflected pass out of the air, then followed a massive escort down the sideline for 60 yards of pure entertainment. Two minutes later, Lance Mickelsen pulled in a short Jensen toss, dodged a Bear defender, and galloped 70 yards for his team high, sixth touchdown reception of the year. Snow continued to roll when Johnny Tejada scored the first of his two rushing touchdowns of the day, this one from three yards out with 1:36 before half. His second came with 4:45 left in the third quarter, giving the Badgers a 35-1- 0 lead. Touchdown strikes from Snows Olin Hannum to Josh White and Michael Van Dyke, 1 1 and seven yards respectively, finished the scoring and sent the Bears back to Phoenix still looking for their first victory this season. The victory keeps Snow their consecutive winning streak now moves to eight, going back to last year. by Ken Beazer EPHRAIM Snow Colleges volleyball team did their best impersonation of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" this past week, traveling to Phoenix, AZ to compete in the Phoenix Invitational. Answer: quite well. Overall, Snow College finished 5 in the tournament, but even in defeat, the Lady Badgers took their opponents to the limit, nearly recording more upsets. Victories over Arizona Western, Mesa CC, Phoenix CC and Pima CC helped to offset defeats to Scottsdale CC, SLCC, Yavapai, Glendale and Eastern Arizona. Yet, even in defeat, the Lady Badgers came away with the respect of their opponents. "We took several of those teams to the limit," exclaimed "but we just coach Jeppson, couldnt pull off all the upsets." The Lady Badgers continued to get solid play from sophomores, Nicole Geddes, Becky Snarr and Tawny a Crumb. Geddes and Crumb remain a lethal offensive duo and Snarr is quickly becoming a leader on the floor. Still, the impressive defensive play of Kammy Pead has to be one of the most welcomed sights for the Lady Badgers. Quietly, Pead has emerged as a team leader, unceremoniously, just getting the job done. In a team filled with offensive stars, she welcomes her defensive role.
