PLEASAN- T- The lds premier three-on-thr- worbas- ketball series will dribble through here this summer as the city hosts the second annual Coca-Col- a Horseshoe Mountain Hoops Basketball Tournament Friday. Aug. 16, 5 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 17, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The tourney is part of a North American circuit presented by Triple Crown Sports covering 65 cities across the United States and Canada. Horseshoe Mountain Hoops will be held on the streets of downtown Mt. Pleasant' along side the Horseshoe Mountain Festival. The tournament is open to male and female participants eight years of age and older. Teams will be categorized into divisions based on height, playing ability and age. The top three squads from each division are encouraged to compete at the prestigious Triple Crown North American finals at Coors Field, Denver, CO from Aug. 31 to Sept. 1. The tournament will feature a festive atmosphere complementaction. ing the Hoops hotshots will showcase their talents via slam dunk, three-poishooting and free throw ' ' contests. Triple Crown Sports has been leader in grassroots sporting events since 1982. PLEASAN- T- Some streets in the city will be closed during the Horseshoe Mountain Festival and Horseshoe Mountain Tournament Hoops Basketball from noon, Friday, Aug. 16, until Saturday, Aug. 17, at approximately 7 p.m. Main Street will be the site of the craft fair, turkey barbecue, Lions Club breakfast and street dance, it will be closed from State Street to 200 West. Canopies for booths will be set up between 100 West and State Street. The entertainment stage will be set up in the intersection of 100 West and Main. The street dance will be held between 100 West and 200 West on Main Street. Each team receives an official and is guaranteed event three games. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Mt. Pleasant Main Street Program, who will be providing volunteers throughout the tournament weekend. PLEASAN- T- The theme for this year's Horseshoe Mountain Festival, "Theres No Better Time Than The Present To Join Us In The Past," capsulizes the event which will begin with a tip-oparty, including a public barbecue and entertainment scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Horseshoe Mountain Lodge. The festival continues Friday, Aug. 16, on Main Street with the tournament, craft booths, barbecued turkey dinner. Black Hawk War commemorative and free street dance. The craft booths will be in place at 4 p.m.. with the dinner starting at 6:30 p.m.. followed by the street dance at 8 p.m. The Lions Club will serve breakfast starting at 7 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 17; Downtown Dash taking off at 8 a.m; craft and street sale beginning at 10 a.m. three-on-thr- ff Dr. Bateman appointed director of IHC group SALT LAKE CITY-Ephrresident Kim Bateman, MD, has recently been appointed medical director for IHC Rural Family Practice Group, according to Linda C. Leckman, MD, IHC Physician Group. Last year. Dr. Bateman was named medical director for IHC's nine rural family practice hospitals. In his new combined role. Dr. Bateman will coordinate, activities with physicians who practice at 14 IHC clinics in central Utah, as well as clinics in Evanston, . Bridger Valley and Star Valley, WY. He is a member of the Physician Group board, and works with his counterpart medical directors in IHCs three urban and other rural regions. Dr. Bateman, a fellow in the American Academy of Family aim & sMssmei has been recently appointed medical Kim Bateman, director for IHC Rural Family Practice Group. Dr. Bateman said. im NS District Ftn Green receives $45,000 grant to upgrade buildings gets UAC grant SALT LAKE CIT- Y- The Utah Arts Council recently awarded North Sanpete School District an $800 grant for the Missoula Children's Theatre to conduct a week-lon- g residency with approximately 65 district students. Two performances of Hansel will be open to the public, as well as to students of the eight schools within the district. North Sanpete was one of 168 nonprofit organizations to be awarded $1,184,057 grant dollars by the Utah Arts Council. & Gretel . SALT LAKE CIT- Y- The State of Utah Permanent Community Impact Board recently approved a $45,000 grant to Fountain Green City for a community project to bring a maintenance building and city hall in compliance with the American with Disabilities Act. The Community Impact Board meets three times each year to disperse state mineral lease funds for local infrastructure and capital in cities and improvements towns. |
