Show CITY COUNCIL MEETS the regular meeting of th the 0 city council was held last evening mayor and all councilmen excepting 1 larsan arsen present J L james aier mgr baker lumber co asked permission on behalf of his company to erect a wagon aalee in front of their place of business on main alain street referred to committee on streets with power to act the attorney was waa instructed I 1 to 0 collect all delinquent paying paving tax reports of marshal and jus justice tice ol of the peace were presented and acted upon J E mangum asked permission to erect a ware house in the rear of his place of business Hee Ree frred to committee on fire department with power to act the city attorney submitted a written opinion as to the legality of the county road tax in cities report filed corn com on water works arks reported that they had bad ordered 2200 feet of 2 inch pipe with which to make extensions to the water system approved I 1 finance committee reported rep favorably on the recommendations of tile the electric light committee with respect to bookkeeping for electric lights and water systems and with some changes recommended that the plan be adopt edi approved the matter houses of the four respective spec tive wards A number of claims were read and the council adjourned the democrats of 0 the city roel met in convention in tho the city chambers last saturday evening and placed in noal nation it a ticket for the various offices ot of the city enthusiasm was rife and the precinct delegations were well represented in the absence of the tha city chairman who was out ot of the city john W phillips secretary called the convention to order and wynn L eddy was named at temporary chairman with J E baird as secretary the chairman was then authorized to appoint the formulate their reports and upon reassembling the reports were read and accepted the temporary organization was made permanent and the order of business called caled tor for nominating a justice of 0 the peace treasurer recorder mayor councilman 4 1 acar term Q and councilmen 2 year will T gidney and orson J olson were appointed tellers and the conven tion was ready tor for business J D call ca secured the floor and in a br brilliant ill speech placed victor K L madsen in nomination for justice of the peace the applause was so great that mr ir alaison had difficulty in making the convention hear ills his decline do cine with thanks but it was accepted and C D T brown was named by abraham evans jesse W hoopis by T ill evans 11 M riggins figgins by B 0 cepi jeppson son 1 al hess by J P orphan was voted in by acclamation there was a decided inclination to endorse the candidacy 0 of P russell wight for recorder but it could not cot be learned whether or not he be had bad been named by the republican convention so his name was placed in nomination ns as a apson joseph E baird was named by john P christensen Cliris and upon the first ballot mr air baird won out receive ing 22 votes to air 14 later a reconsideration was taken on this action it having been learned that mr wight had been nominated by his party and the assurance being given that sir mr baird would decline to run 0 so o a unanimous vote was recorded endorsing Idoni ing sir air wight for the office of 0 mayor mr john P christensen was nominated by lars hansen but he promptly declined to accept the nomination david P burt was named by win jeppson and he be too declined BrIj brigham barn wright was the next neit man nominated J al liess hess placing his bis name and he declined then mr air J W made a ringing speech in which he placed the name ot of mr E R W dunn in nomination and his effort was greeted with prolonged applause As mr duon dunn arose to hla big feet the applause continued an and d
