He apparently had been seen by several Wasatch Academy students around 10 Mt. Pleasant City Council irrigation, power issues by C.R. Truitt MT. PLEASANT Power and irrigation issues were among items discussed at the April 9 council meeting. Dan Anderson,' power super, intendent reported on repairs to the citys hydroelectric system. A new control in unit one had been installed, but the unit wasnt up to capacity yet, Anderson said. He reported that a control program is to be rewritten in April and a bypass valve in one of the power units has been replaced and is working, but doesnt have steps leading to the valve yet. ; Andersons department is still working on the bypass valve in unit four which had blown out. A replacement had been ordered from a Texas company which sent the wrong gasket. He explained that unit three had a filter replaced that keeps mud from ruining its bypass system. Negotiations are underway With Skyline Resort for a power line which will allow electrical hookups for 144 lots in Skyline Estates. The choirs were rated by two judges both of whom were certified by the Utah Music Educators Association (UMEA). According to the rating system prescribed by the UMEA, the highest rating possible is a "I" on a scale of "I" to "IV". Because North Sanpete received a "I" from both judges they are now eligible to compete in state competition which will be held this spring. The judge who gave the choir the "I" noted that the choir really deserved a but that was not an official rating. Roy Ellefsen, NSHS Concert Choir director stated, "Our group has qualified for the state contest at every region contest for the last six or seven years, but this is the first time that we have received T ratings. We have received T ratings at the state contest for the last six years. We hope we can do it again. I am enormously proud of our choir. We have one of the best choirs in the state and Utah is famous for its excellent high school choirs." The choir performed "Ave Maria" by Franz Schubert, "Je le vous dirai" by Pierre Certon and "Stopping by the Woods" (the famous Robert Frost poem) in a setting by Jim Quaranto. Choirs from Delta and Carbon High Schools also received "I" ratings. "I" non-regi- "I" State Choral Contest will be May 10 and 11. About 150 admiring parents, friends and students attended the gala. Award winners for North Sanpete High School were: Rosemarie Grames, Holly Hansen, Heather Poulson, and Lesa Thomas for drawing. For Wasatch Academy: Courtney White for photography; Stuart Hutchinson and Travis McFlynn, ceramics. For Manti High School, Maren Anderson and Sherry Black, painting; Keri Hersman and Casey Olson, sculpture; and Brian Meade, collage. For Gunnison Valley High School: Cindy Sorensen, painting; Jordan Inouye, drawing; Malynda Judd, sculpture; and Rustin Pickett, ceramics. The annual exhibit of high school students art will be on display continuing until May 13, noon to 6 p.m., at the Art Center, 86 North Main Street. North Sanpete High School students receiving superior ratings at the state drama competition held April 19 and 20 at Snow Canyon in Santa Clara were: Russell Beck and Barrett Hilton for their original mime entry; Elissa Cox for her portrayal of Emily in "Our Town"; and Brad Washburn for humorous performance. ihm NS students compete at BYU French language fair First year French PROVO students from North Sanpete High School participated in the annual BYU French Fair on April 18. Joe Cook, Fountain Green, received a superior rating for his performance in the spelling bee, and Amy Spaulding, Hide Away Valley, received a superior rating in poetry. Abe Barker, Ben Brown, Penny Bulow, Ruth Canfield, Ryan Carr, Patty Cervantes, Meri Fullmer, Emily Hilton, Nick Kowalski, Lori Meyer, Robert Rigby, Jessica Robison, Holly Davis, Amy Smith and Brandy Holdaway participated in the event. BYU graduate students and all participators were required to speak only French during the activities. Events included interviews, music hall, going through customs, exchanging money at the bank, planning a trip at the travel agency, dramatic reading, bingo, shopping, journalism, and taking an exam.
