Show Page Two - The Pyramid - September 20, 1995 A. IV N pEIVJYir'S WOMTM X. I Merrill Ogden & Calvin Hobbes Fine dining is back The Horseshoe Mountain Restaurant at the north end of Mt. Pleasant is officially open. Friday night, we did the normal thing that Sanpeters do when theres a fire or the opening of a new business. We went and gawked and checked the thipg out. Entering the restaurant itself was impressive. I hadnt expected such a first class atmosphere. There was a crowd there. I recognized people from up and down the county. The oak woodwork on the massive fireplace instantly caught my eye and in my mind I said, "Wow!" There are two fireplaces and a curio or two d with woodwork around otherwise. We were told that the work on the building was done almost entirely by local talent. As we were seated, I noticed that expense was not spared on the furniture. Nice upholstered arm chairs are the standard in the interior of the dining area, while classy booths surround along the walls. On to the food. I had the halibut dinner at $12.95. It started with a green salad laced with watercress which was a nice touch for my tastes. I remember as a kid gathering watercress with my dad in the meadows east of Richfield. He thought a watercress sandwich was a delicacy, though I had little appreciation for it. However, at my age and stage now, it sounds pretty good. well-crafte- A-- 100. Deuel, Kerry manager, stepped by the table and checked on us several times in his own inimitable way. Hes a fun personality and a good guy. (He was missed at the derby this year.) Ownership was represented by the presence of Mr. Johansen. (Georges brother Al.) He was cruising the dining room doing some casual customer satisfaction restaurateur schmoozing. I like that in a restaurant. I believe the naysayers will be proved wrong. Some ambitious ventures over the past few years, including the Country Village Motel and Restaurant in Manti wefe greeted with, "That cant work here" by some people. But if its done well, it will be like the ball diamond in the movie "Field of Dreams", "If you build it , they will come." Yes, I declare that fine dining is back in Sanpete. With the exception of the Manti House Inn, I dont believe weve had that since the Cedar Crest faded from the regular restaurant scene.... Merrill Channel 2 must go digging unassisted for shocking story This past week I received a phone call from Michael Rawson with the Channel 2 News Team. At first, as the coordinator of LEO, I jumped at he opportunity for statewide public relations exposure. Two days later, I called Channel 2 and asked Mr. Rawson and his team to please stay at home. If citizens of this valley want to communicate their concerns regarding actions and attitudes of our local law enforcement officers, we should take this task into our own hands. We vote our County Sheriff into office, along with our town and city mayors who hire our police officers. These officers have a tough job to do. The LEO organization wants to support good law enforcement and support citizens rights under the law. We dont need big media exposure down here creating an us against them attitude. We need good law enforcement in growing Sanpete County. We need it to be professional and to serve the public good. I welcome all county citizens to attend our public meeting to be held Thursday, Sept. 21, at 7 p.m., in the Mt. Pleasant Library basement. We citizens need to be responsible for the actions of our public servants, so all good folks out there, please come and meet with us. Channel 2 will have to get their sensational story somewhere else. Doni P. Mackenzie Mt. Pleasant 283-47- 445-33- 462-31- POSTMASTER: Send change of address to The Pyramid, 49 West Mam Street, Mt. Theres a name for that principal; its' called Murpheys Law. More correctly the law states that "if anything can happen (go wrong), it will; and it will happen at the worst " possible moment. So why am I surprised that both The Pyramids computers and telephones decide that Monday (deadline day) is the day to take a hike? Im not really surprised. Stressed, perhaps. Annoyed, definitely. But I cant really say Im surprised. Actually, Ive been expecting it. You see, its been some time sine? Murphey asked the Pyramid to see if his law still worked. And it does. Of course, Murphey had some help with this one (as usual). The computers have been telling us for some time that all was not well. I guess I would have paid more attention to Computer if it hadnt been for the trouble with the telephones. Anyone who tried to call us last week knows the phones are sick, too. Now anyone with a brain should know that telephones, computers, and roofs dont fix themselves. Computer viruses dont go away with a few weeks of bed rest.
