PLEASAN- T- North Sanpetes Lady Hawks Maria Cook and Melynda Blain were the winning battery for North Sanpete against Carbon. Cook had 10 strikeouts and Blain had two important stolen bases in the fifth inning. Tawnya Crumb was credited with one RBI, and Sara Whitman contributed two for the Hawks. The game was decided in two extra innings after time ran out at the end of the sixth inning, with the games tied at (The tiebreaker rule went into effect with a runner starting on second base.) NS and Carbon each scored one run in the seventh. The Lady Hawks two runs in the eighth against Carbons one gave NS the game. In league play, the Lady Hawks are 4-Recently, the Lady Hawks defeated Richfield in Wildcat Cook pitched and country 9-Blain caught. Laci Wall had four RBIs and tripled twice. Blain had two RBIs for the Hawks and Crumb added another: Cyndi Cook also had an RBI. Cook pitched seven strikeouts and no walks. In other action, the Lady Hawks lost to Emery, on the Spartan field. It was an emotional game after the sudden death of Blains grandfather, Gordon Blain, an assistant coach. Maria Cook had seven strikeouts. NS had five hits and four RBIs. Crumb doubled for the Hawks. Whitman had two hits and two RBIs. Laci Wall had two hits and Maria Cook had one. Heather Pyper had one RBI. The game went down to the very last minute of play with NS having the runners that would have tied the game on base. However, in an effort to get home, Crumb was thrown out at home in a close play. The team played at home on Tuesday, May 2 with results unavailable at press time. They host Delta today. May 3. Pleasant City Council concerning clean-u- p responsibilities April 1 1 . Mayor Chesley Christensen said the city filled three dumpsters daily with refuse from the rodeo. He suggested at least eight toilets for the estimated 2,000 people expected to attend. The council also granted the groups request for a parade of costumed participants the first night of the pageant. John Schuhmann, representing attending senior citizens, accepted the citys offer to build on property at 200 East (known as the old swimming pool). The council will have an agreement made up giving the group the right to use the property and will have the citys attorney review it. Mayor Christensen announced that Sunrise Engineers proposal to do some extensive rework on a city electric pond, involving adding valves in order for servicing to be done on the ponds pen stock, was estimated at $31,600 for engineering plus $4,000 designs. The city still has $70,000 in contingency funds to absorb the costs, but council members verbally wondered why the engineers wanted such an elaborate repair to do what they felt was an engineering mistake of the original design. Effective May 1, land at 300 West 750 South (behind Terrels) will change from residential to commercial, by motion from the council. The council also voted to accept the $2,967 1995 Fire District Contract, but added that Councilman David Blackham will try to negotiate a higher amount for the 1996 contract. Commissioners agreed to a zone change for a small tract in the Indian Hills subdivision, and a road realignment to solve a power problem, but turned down approval of a special service district. Indian Hills representatives Jay Barlow and D.W. Crosby said special service district status would enable the subdivision to obtain a loan for water developments. But the commission denied application approval on several grounds, the main one being that special service districts have as ar The council discussed responsibility for cleaning restrooms and watching campers at Power Plant park, and gave permission for a 50 by 50 storage area in the hangar for ultra light owners storage. Water from a spring area has undermined a strip of the road to ' a depth of four feet. The spring flow will be diverted and the ' damaged strip rebuilt as soon as possible. Although the damaged section is in Sanpete County, it is more important to Emery County because it provides Emery residents better access to a major recreation area that includes the Joes ' Valley Reservoir. The Road has been a trouble area on the east side of Manti Mountain and was realigned for several miles three years ago. 1 closed April 8. Of seven applicants, three will be interviewed by the council. Mayor Christensen said any of the three would do a good job for the city. In other action, the council passed a motion authorizing Mayor Christensen to include $10,000 in next years budget for payment of a four percent, four-yelease with Ken Garff Chevrolet.
