Show Page Six - The Pyramid - October 12, 1994 6-- Music recital begins Snow College homecoming by Dean ODriscoll EPHRAI- M- Elaine Lewis Jorgensen, flutist, will start the Snow College homecoming activities with a recital Sunday night, Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. in the schools music building. She will be accompanied by mark R. Johnson and several faculty members of the Snow College music department. Jorgensen is a Utah native, performer and teacher. She obtained her masters degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York, and did her doctoral work at Juilliard School of Music in New York. She has performed professionally as a member of the American Symphony under the baton of Leopold Stokowsky, the Boston Pops recording orchestra under Arthur Fiedler, Columbia Records Orchestra in performances with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir recordings, the Juilliard Woodwind Quintet, the New Canaan Ensemble and the Orpheus Winds Quintet which performed in China in 1988. She has been the director of the Stamford Connecticut Young Artists Flute Choir and the Sounds of Silver Flute at BYU, where Jorgensen taught for six years. She has given solo con certs in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and France. Her teachers include famous flutists around the world: Julius Baker, William Kincaid, Harold Bennett, Eugene Foster, and Jean Doussard, flutist recently, and conductor of the National Superior Conservatory of France where she studied this summer. Mark R. Johnson, pianist, is a senior at BYU majoring in piano and pedagogy, performance studying with Dr. Irene Peery. He is currently the recipient of the Loaz W. Johnson Memorial Scholarship which is awarded to one student performance major each year. Johnsons other teachers include Stephen de Groote and Robert Taub. He has performed as a soloist as such venues as the Assembly Hall in Salt Lake City, Phoenix Symphony Hall and Tanglewood Institute in Massachusetts. He enjoys performing various styles of music and has toured extensively with the BYU Young Ambassadors. He accompanies many different soloists, both instrumental and vocal, professionally and is the official accompanist with several choral and light opera organizations. Jorgensen will feature . the music of Bach, Quantz, Faure, Genin, Goddard and PDQ Bach. The Snow College Music Building is located on the corner of 100 East and 100 North the recital, a Following volleyball tourney will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Activity Center. Monday is also the deadline for graduation application and the last day for course withdrawal. Tuesday is the beginning of habitation decoration. There will be a powder puff football game on the football field at 5 p.m and the movie, "The Three Musketeers" will be shown at 8 p.m. Judging of habitation decorating will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Banner decorating will happen at 3 p.m. with judging at 5 p.m. Homecoming game night begins in the Activity Center at 10 p.m. and continues until midnight. Study groups will be in the Humanities building, Room 122, from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Sidewalks will be painted at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a homecoming carnival in the quad Notice is hereby given that on Tuesday, the 18th day of October, 1994 at 1:00 p.m. the Sanpete County Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing at the County Courthouse in Manti, Utah. A pep rally will be held at 6:30 p.m. Decorating for the dance at the middle school is scheduled that afternoon. The Field House Frolics will be held in the Activity Center at 9 p.m. and Snow will face Ricks College in volleyball at 7 p.m. Saturday begins early with a 7:30 a.m. k run, followed by a parade at 10 a.m. Tailgate and activities begin at noon with the Badgers facing Scottsdale at 1:30 p.m. Reunions are also scheduled that day.
