Fortunately, it was all they needed. their second By pitching shutout of the year, the and undefeated Manti Templars cruised to a 40-- 0 victo-- . ry over Parowam in a game at Snow College last week. The potent Templar offense scored touchdowns on its first three possessions of the game. The first was on a pass to Scott top-rank- ed non-regi- Dyreng from quarterback Alan Cox. Coxs PAT was successful. After Parowan fumbled the ball away, Manti found the end zone again on a pass from Cox to pass to Alan throwing a Cox, with the PAT blocked. The defense was again key for Manti, with Kert Stevens and Alan Cox having interceptions, and tough hits from the rest of the defensive unit. PLEASAN- T- The North Sanpete Hawks dropped a to the Juab Wasps last The muddy Wednesday, field was a factor in both teams inability to put points on the board. Juab made their only touchdown of the night early in the first quarter on a fake handoff taken untouched into the end zone. The PAT was good and the Wasps led 7 with 8:09 left in the first period. The Hawks seemed unable to turn opportunities into scores. After three possessions without a first down conversion, Juab fielded a punt calling fair catch, then ran with the ball drawing a penalty that gave the ball back to North Sanpete. With help from a tough offensive line, die Hawks came up with two first downs in a sustained drive, but were unable to take it over the heart-break- er 0. 0-- well-execut- ed goal line. Juab fumbled on the punt reception for the first of several times, but were somehow able to recover the ball in each instance. They scored for the final time on a field goal in the second quarter and the teams went to the locker rooms at the half, The NS defense came out fired up for the second half allowing the Wasps no more numbers on the scoreboard. On Juabs first possession, Eric Dyches intercepted a pass when the Wasp offense missed the timing pattern, but could not convert the first down. Juab got the ball to the line when their quarterback fumbled and Junior Ioane (who 0-1- 0. 50-ya- rd caused the fumble as well) came up with the ball for North Sanpete. Four plays later, the Hawks fumbled and Juab thought they had it. The officials reversed a call and awarded possession to the Hawks. A holding penalty, the kind plaguing the Hawks this year, forced a punt after a tough offensive stand by the NS team, but a Juab fumble gave the ball back to the North Sanpete offense. The Hawks cashed in on the Juab gift as Eric Dyches took a handoff from quarterback Allen Jacobson into die end zone for the Hawks. Justin Osmond kicked the PAT putting the Hawks to within three points of hte Wasps with 4:55 on the clock. After a Juab drive that ate all but 1:35 off the clock, the Hawks took the ball downfield but time ran out before they could score, making the final score Wes Nunley, playing with a pulled hamstring, was key to the NS team, playing several positions, both offensively and defensively for the Hawks. He was named the Subway player of the game for his efforts. The Hawks face the Carbon Dinos on home turf this Friday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. 0.
