Ranger District In accordance with the Secretary of Agriculture Regulations I am issuing the following Notice of Proposed Action: Open a Borrow Pit West of Baseball Flat in NW 14 Sec. 19, T.20S. R.4E., on the Sanpete Ranger District of the Manti-L- a Sal National Forest in order to maintain the Skyline Drive and other associated Forest Roads. Material from the pit will be used to maintain the surface of Forest Roads which are in a deteriorating condition. Material from the proposed pit is 3 minus rock material mixed with fines. It has been determined that the material is suitable to use to repair rutted surfaces and spot gravel sections of the road that are causing.erosion. The area is screened from the Skyline Drive by timber so that the proposed excavation will' not be visible from the Travel Zone. An Influence archeologist has inspected the area and no artifacts or historic material was found. An on the ground inspection indicated that there are no Threatened or Endangered species of plants present. The proposed pit will be approximately 150 yards on four sides and it has also been determined that there are no effects to T&E or candidate species. A Pit1 Management Plan will be developed that will call for topsoil to be stockpiled. Revegetation will occur as the material is used. The pit will probably be used for road maintenance for a period 20 of approximately years. 2) Location - West of Baseball Flat in NW 14 Sec. 19, T.20S., R.4E., on the Sanpete Ranger District of the Manti-L- a Sal National Forest. 3) Additional Information - Additional Information can be obtained by contacting Thomas H.
