PLEASANT, UTAH 84647 Volume 102 - Number Price $.50 July 20, 1994 Twenty-nin- e Fairview, Spring City Pioneer Days Local man named as grand marshal for annual Fairview Pioneer Day celebration Former City FAIRVIECouncilman Jerry .Nelson will serve as the grand marshal of the Fairview Pioneer Days Parade on Monday, July 25. Nelson has lived in Fairview, his favorite community, according to a rd'cent press release, for most of his life. He was bom there in 1931. He worked in his fathers grocery store as a youth and graduated from North San-- " pete High School, He attended Snow College and received a bachelors degree from USAC in Logan. He returned home to marry Lavon Wheeler, Milbum, and together they are the parents of six children: Allen, Jeff, Jody, Jan, Patrick and Natalie. He enjoyed all sports, especially playing baseball for Citys team in the Sanpete-SeviLeague. He coached and worked with little and pony W- Fair-vie- w er league baseball programs for 20 years. Nelson owned and operated Snowland Ski Area in Fairview Canyon for 12 years, then made the lodge available for several more years. He enjoys skiing, hunting, fishing and the Fairview mountains with family and friends. He retired from teaching school after 35 years and enjoyed' the association with many young people while teaching grades He was the treasurermanager of the North Sanpete Federal Credit Union for 15 years! He served as a Fairview city councilman under three different mayors. He was the interim director of the Fairview Museum, and worked hard to help obtain funds for a new building and the upgrading of the old museum building. Active in the LDS Church, he MT. The Main Street food fest is in conjunction with a wide range of activities for Horseshoe Mountain Days including hot air balloon and helicopter rides, mountain men and Native American encampments, a reenactment of the Blackhawk Treaty, a street dance, cpntest and tournaments. Up to 16 people may play on any one team. A horseshoe tournament will begin oh Friday at 6 p.m. and continue Saturday at 10 a.m. Saturdays parade will file down Main Street at 10 a.m. followed by a childrens carnival at 11. A talent showcase and firehose soccer will be featured at 1 p.m. with other activities including golf pitching and towel toss during this time. A dance to the swinging sounds of Junction" 89 will be held in the City Hall Auditorium at 9 p.m. Saturday morning begins with a flag ceremony at 7 a.m. at the post office with a firemans breakfast at the Main Street Fire Station at 7 a.m. 2. He and his wife recently completed a special service LDS mission to the Islands of Tonga in the South Pacific. As an amateur artist he likes to paint animals, family and friends. He enjoys working in the yard, being with family and friends, traveling and being in the 20-mon- th mountains. They are the parents of five children and reside in Boise, ID. Bench his early received Fairview in and Mt. schooling Bench will speak to the topic "We Are Pioneers".
