Show Page The Eight Pyramid 9, April Ron Abegglen named AAU head coach 1986 Snows Mike Kowalski likes country life by Doris Larsen Michael EPHRAI- M- Dr. Kowalski, Assistant Professor of English, began teaching at Snow College in the fall of 1984, coming from Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant to fill this position. In addition to the Basic Communications classes (English I, English II, and III,) Kowalski teaches classes in Shakespeare, Poetry, Creative Writing, and is advisor to the student literary magazine, Tumbleweeds. Kowalski was bom in Erie, Penn, and attended grammar and high school there. He also graduated from Temple University in Philadelphia before coming west in 1970 to study at the University of California at Berkeley, where he received his PhD. in English, specializing in American Literature. Sophomore pitcher Bret Cherry was the winning pitcher in game number 1, and first baseman Jeff Jorgensen led the batmen with 3 hits in 4 at bats, with 2 RBIs in Snows 5 win. In game two Cherry was relieved in the 4th by Robby Carstensen with score tied at three. In the sixth Walbeck knocked out a double, stole third, and scored what appeared to be the winning run on a hit by Steve Hansen who was 2 for 3 for the game. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and a one run lead it looked like Snow had the game. But the Wolverines loaded the bases on Teresa Krebs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard F. Krebs, Mt. Pleasant, recently won the New Horizon Award, the highest individual honor in the Future Homemakers of America. She will receive this award Friday, April 11, at the FHA State Convention awards banquet in Park City. She is presently serving as a local chapter officer. During state convention she will be running for state officer and also for a position on the Peer Educator's Team. 8-- FAIRVIEW The Sanpete Barrel Racing Association Jackpot will be held Sunday, April 13 in the Fair-vieArena. Sign up is at noon. Contestants may sign up under any of three age groups, eight and under; nine to 13; and over 14 years of age. Competition will include barrels, poles and goat tying. A proficient writer, Kowalski last year had an article on Domestic Romance in 19th Century Literature published, and this year is chairing the American Literature section of the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters annual meeting to be held at Utah State College in Cedar City in early May. In this position he will review and select for publication papers submitted from university and college professors. Horseshoe pitchers to begin league MT. PLEASANT Anyone who has an interest in pitching horse shoes is invited to participate in the Mt. Pleasant Horseshoe Pitchers League which will begin with singles play on April 17. The event will be held at 6 p.m. at the city park according to Donald Howell, president of the local association. Howell said men, women and children are welcome to play and that no experience is necessary. He said there will be a handicap so those who are less experienced can pitch competitively. The singles league will run for eight weeks and there will be a small entry fee. Howell said trophies will be awarded at the end of the league play.
