PLEASAN- T- Mayoral and city council candidates in two Sanpete cities have announced their candidacy intentions for the Nov. 5 municipal elections. Candidates in Mt. Pleasant include, Mayor Amoir Deuel, Frayne Christensen and Gerald Nehmer, mayor, and Chuck Colebrook, Carol Gundry, Kelly Roseman and Glen Groves, city council. Spring City candidates are Mrs. Max (Thelma) Olsen and Roy Rostron, mayor and David Allred, Joe Bennion, Craig Paulson, George Kenzy and Jack Tice, city council. Candidates in Ephraim, chosen by party nominating meetings include, Democratic candidates, Demont H. Howell, mayor, and Keith C. Keisel and Craig Larsen, city council; and Republican candidates, Robert War-nicmayor, and Robert Stoddard and Mark Anderson, city council. Candidates in other Sanpete cities, Fairview, Moroni, Fountain Green and Wales, all subject to a primary election had previously filed under an earlier deadline. k, Three vie for mayors seat in Mt. Pleasant MT. PLEASANT Mayor Amoir Deuel is seeking her second term as mayor and will be challenged by two contenders, Frayne Christensen and Jerry Nehmer. Frayne Christensen He taught mining technology at College of Eastern Utah at Price for Christensen has been chairman of the city power board for the past two years, he also spent about 12 years working as mining electrician and foreman at nearby mines including Consolidated at Emery, East Carbon, Horse Canyon, and Spring Canyon. He spent over three years as electrician at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. Pleasant Frayne Christensen, retired general contractor, is running for mayor in Mt. Pleasant. A certified electrician, two years. During his 35 years in construction, Christensen assisted in many large building projects including a rocket launcher in California and remodeling the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He is a member of the Mt. Lions Club. resident of Mt. Frayne, a Pleasant, is married to the former Pearl Johansen, lifetime resident, and they are the parents of five living children. Amoir Deuel Mt. Pleasant Mayor Amoir Deuel, seeking reelection, was born on a ranch in Axtell. She and her husband, Verge, have owned and operated Deuel Builders in Mt. Pleasant for the past 25 years. She has served as past president of the Chamber of Commerce, Jacettes Lady Lions, Fine Arts Club, as a member of the Industrial Board for many years and board member of the Intermountain Consumers Power Agency (ICPA). She is also on the railroad task force, was chosen Mt. Pleasants Outstanding Citizen of 1982 and Outstanding Women of Sanpete in Amoir Deuel Kravne Christensen Rostron, Olsen ask Spring City support SPRING CIT- Y- A former city councilman, Roy Rostron, and a former California resident, Thelma Olsen, are asking for voter support in the November 5 election. Thelma Olsen Mayoral Mayor Deuel was chosen by Governor Norman Bangerter to serve on the State Economic Board and she also served on the State Howell, Warnick seek EPHRAIM Seeking the mayor two newcomers in the city political arena, Dr. Demont Howell and Robert Warnick. Warnick, Republican mayoral candidate, has been employed by Utah State University for 25 years, and for the last nine years has been director of turkey research at the Snow Field Station. He has served as president, secretary and member of the board of directors of the Ephraim Rotary Club, on the Sanpete County Agriculture Advisory Board for development of zoning ordinance, as chairman on the Sanpete District Varsity Scouting Committee, and as Bishop of the Ephraim 4th Ward, and is currently serving as Second Counselor in the Snow College Stake Presidency. He is director of the Utah Turkey Show and Utah Turkey Short Course, and has been voting district chairman and delegate to the county political convention. A veteran, he served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and spent one year in Japan. He and his wife, the former Carol Porter, have six children and one foster daughter. Demont Howell Democratic Dr. Demont mayoral candidate, 11. Howell, has suc- cessfully served as Humanities Division Chairman of Snow College, the largest teaching division in the college, for 10 years. A lifetime resident of Sanpete County, he has lived in Ephraim for 25 years and has been closely associated with the educational community serving as principal of Ephraim Elementary and junior high. Currently teaching literature and philosophy at Snow College, Dr. Howell also served as debate coach, president of Snow College Teachers Association, and a committee member of the Utah Endowment of the Humanities. He is also a member of the Northwest Accreditation Team Association and has served as president of the Utah Teachers Association. He retired from the Utah Natiional Guard after over 30 years service as a full colonel having served as battery commander, commandant of the Utah Military Academy and chief of the test team. He has served as president for both the Ephraim Rotary and Lions Clubs. He and his wife, Arlea have six children and 24 grandchildren. Badger boosters plan organization meeting EPHRAI- M- Snow College Athletic Director Steve Gardner announces that this years Badger Booster Club organizational meeting will be held today, Oct. 9 at 7 : 30 p.m. in the Snow College Cafeteria. A light buffet will- be served. Gardner encourages Coach everyone who is interested in Snow College and Snow College Athletics to get involved in the Booster Club. We havent had a meeting for several years, and would like to get the Booster Club rolling again. We encourage anyone and everyone to attend and bring new ideas to help better Snow College Athletics, said Gardner. She is a member of the Sanpete and Sevier Railroad Foundation and has been the prime mover behind of the railroad the as well as the reopening of Highway Robert Warnick Demont II. Howell Economic She was instrumental in the formation of the local redevelopment agency, construction of an incubator building for Advantguard in the City's industrial park and recent activity by the Utah National Guard to push new roads through the industrial park. She also helped initiate a new high tech industry, Gal Tech, located at the old hospital building, and encouraged them to establish their operations locally. She also works with the Utah League of Cities to insure proper legislation is introduced to the Utah Legislature to benefit all citizens of Utah. Gerald Nehmer Gerald Nehmer, resident of Mt. Pleasant, was born in Milwaukee, Wise, and spent his early years in Tucson, Az. candidate, Thelma Olsen, moved to Spring City with her husband, Max, four years ago from 1983. Rural Jerry Nehmer Sacramento, California. Mr. Olsen is originally from Ephraim. An active member of the LDS Church, Mrs. Olsen is currently the Relief Society President of the Spring City First Ward and was serving as a counselor before being called as president. Before moving to Spring City, she had served as Relief Society president and had held other positions in the presidency three times. She had served as secretary in the Primary, worked in the Stake Genealogy Library for four years, taught a genealogy class for 16 years and held many other positions. Mrs. Olsen had worked on the campaigns of local politicians while living in California. Roy Rostron resident Roy Rostron, a long-timof Spring City, has filed as a mayoral candidate. Rostron is a graduate of North Sanpete High School and has been employed by Paulsen Engineering and Construction for the past eight years. He is an active member of the LDS Church and for the past three years has served as executive secretary to e Roy Rostron Eli Garrison spent nearly three weeks in California visiting with his mother, Nettie Griffiths and his sister, Mrs. Angelo (Betty) Cecchin and family in Milpitas. They all went to Clear Lake, Calif. the bishopric of the Spring City Second Ward. In the past, he has served in the Elders Quroum Presidency and was a Scout leader for five years. Rostron, a former Spring City r Councilman, served a term in the 1970 s. four-yea- Bennions win awards at fair SPRING CIT- Y- Winning has become a tradition in the Bennion family where creative talents find expression in a variety of mediums. Lee and Joe Bennion, noted for their drawing and pottery, have been joined by their daughter, Louisa in carrying out the family tradition. All three were recipients of awards at thte recent Utah State Fair. Louisa took first place in young amateur competition with an oil painting, Lee took fourth place in fine arts with a drawing, and Joe Bennion took first and second place in pottery. Lee was also invited as one of 30 artists to exhibit with Utah Artists sponsored by Robert Redford at Sundance Sept. 28 and 29.
