Show Page Sixteen The Pyramid December 9, 1982 Snow Badgers thrash Weber State jayvee By Bill Jackson The Snow College EPHRAIM Badgers have bounced back from a setback to Lassen Community College with two impressive wins, a 3 thrashing of the Utah State junior varsity last Thursday and a barnburner over the Weber State junior varsity on Monday. Utah State never had the talent to match Snows manpower and as a result they were never in the game. Snow got off to an early lead and never had to look back. Dave Heatons game high 29 points in a brilliant offensive exhibition was joined by four others with double figures: Mark Montgomery netted 19, Rob Thomas sank 14 while Shannon White and Bill Floyd added 12 and 10, respectively. In Weber State the Badgers found a more formidable opponent. According to Badger Coach Ron Abegglen, six of the twelve members were regulars with the Wildcat 78-7- 4 114-7- 90-8- 8 varsity. Carl Poulson, No. 22 for the North Sanpete Hawks, passes off to Lynn and Reese during action Friday night against Richfield. Hawks won will entertain Millard next Friday before traveling to Manti on Saturday. 69-6- Hawks defeat Richfield in see-sacontest The initial ten minutes of the game, though mostly a see-saaffair with the biggest lead being Webers four, were dominated by Wildcat forward Steve Bauer, who connected on his first four field goals, and guard Mark Jett utilizing awesome speed, drilling the lanes to score 13 of his total 23 in the first 12 minutes. With a little over eight minutes left in the half, Coach Abegglen decided to fight fire with fire by inserting Pete Brown, a speedster in his own right, to cool off Jetts hot hand. Pete really turned the game around for us, stated a relieved Up until that point we Abegglen. hadnt been playing defense at all. Jett is quick, but he couldnt match Petes quickness. With the Weber State shooting neutralized, Snow began heating up an offense of their own. Floyd started it off, connecting from the perimeter, and forward Mark Montgomery muscled in on the inside. Snow grabbed the lead for the with i'k minutes left first time in the half, then extended the lead to 8 at the halftime buzzer. The second half proved to be a hot and cold one for the Badgers, who lead with 13 turblew a nine-poinovers and shot a miserable 40 percent from the field. But with less than four minutes left, and Snow holding a 8 advantage, Rob Thomas came off the bench to sink six straight points and seal the Badger victory. Webers Blaur led all scorers with 26 points and Del Macdaniel added 10 to go along with Jetts 23 to pace the Wildcat scorers in double figures. d Snow, getting shooting, placed four players in double figures. Montgomery and Floyd had 24; Dave Heaton 18 and Thomas 12. The Badgers have now boosted their record to 1 while Weber, suffering their first loss, is also 39-3- 8 54-4- 79-7- well-rounde- 4-- 4-- 1. w It was a real barn burner in the Hawk gym Friday night as North Sanpete bested the Richfield contest. The team as a whole made 27 of 57 shots attempted from the field and 73 percent of their free throws. I feel the team finally proved MT. At the half, North Sanpete led With 6 k minutes remaining, forward Kim Wilkey fouled out of the game and the Wildcats sunk the free throw making the score 9 for the Hawks. Two minutes later, the Wildcats and Cook had pulled ahead went to the free throw line and hit two to put his team back in the lead by one point. Because of the jet stream, around 200 miles per hour, Olson said, the barometer dropped to 28.97 inches. Farther north in Salt Lake City a new barometric low was also registered as the barometer dipped to 29.01, an official new low for that area. Olson said when the jet stream winds move rapidly, the barometric pressure is low, slow jet stream winds will bring a high barometric reading. A temperature reading of seven degrees Dec. 3 was the lowest reading so far this winter season, according to Olson.
