It is their challenge to ensure that our patients receive meals which are appealing and appetizing, and which strictly meet their nutritional needs as stated by the physicians orders. Linda Cox, Certified Hospital Food Service Supervisor is aided in this task by Jean Crafts, a Registered Dietitian, and a team of dedicated food service workers. Medical records contain documentation of laboratory tests, and treatments received. This provides key information to everyone involved in treating a patient, not only for the current admission, but also for all future admissions. Dixie Spencer, an Accredited Records Technician, maintains these important records in an absolutely confidential fashion. Pharmacy Laboratory The laboratory is one of the fastest growing, most complex departments in a modern hospital. New technology, procedures, and medical findings must be continually accommodated. The department is under the capable direction of John Liechty, M.T., a Medical Technologist certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. John and his staff k coverage. Radiology The radiology department performs a critical function in the diagnosis of disease. y services are provided around the clock, seven days a week. The department is supervised by Marie Willey, A.R.R.T., a Registered Radiologic Technologist. A radiologist (physician specially trained to read taken at Sanpete reads and interprets all Valley Hospital. In addition a radiologist from Utah Valley Hospital is available in Sanpete Valley Hospital for special procedures every Tuesday and PEOPLE WHO CARE Nursing Service Nursing is the largest department at Sanpete Valley Hospital and most other hospitals. Our Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Nurse Aides work around the clock, fair weather or foul, 365 days each year. Under the direction of Ron Draper, R.N., M.B.A., they mix clinical expertise with compassion and genuine concern. There are many unseen facets to the nursing department. Activities such as quality assurance, monthly scientific training, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training are but a few of these. Sandra Little, R.N., provides a regular inservice program for all nursing service staff. As Infection Control Nurse, Karen Thomas, R.N., constantly makes staff members aware of good infection control practices. As a result, the rate of infections at Sanpete Valley Hospital is well below the national average. Marilyn Blackham, RN supervises the operating room. Housekeeping and Laundry Although often overlooked, these departments are to the provision of safe, comfortable crucial surroundings for our patients and visitors. Housekeeper Patricia Beemus maintains the nearly 13,000 square feet of space in top condition. In the laundry, Marva Simmons and Lenore Shelley collect, sort, launder and fold more than 38,000 pounds of linen each year. Chad Spencer maintains the grounds to keep them looking their best. Physical Therapy The physical therapy department works to maintain or restore physical function to patients who have been impaired due to injury or illness. Physical therapy can be administered on either an inpatient or outpatient basis. David Higham, a Registered Physical Therapist, uses modalities such as massage, heat, cold, manipulation, and exercise as directed by a physician to relieve pain and restore function. Home Health Home health is one of the newest and fastest growing departments at Sanpete Valley Hospital. Directed by Sandra Little, B.S., R.N., this department provides nursing visits and other services to patients in their own homes following hospitalization. Many times this permits patients to return home from the hospital sooner thereby lowering expenses. Home Health services are available on a physicians order to residents of the Sanpete Valley. John Liechty, M.T., performing a complete blood count (CBC). Anesthesia The department of anesthesia, headed by Mike Hale, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, plays a vital role in every surgical procedure performed at Sanpete Valley Hospital. On call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, year round, Mike is called upon to use a variety of modern anesthesia techniques including regional anesthesia, spinal blocks, and general anesthesia. Business Office The business office staff, headed by Yolanda Lewis maintains the hospitals financial records. They are responsible not only for patient accounts but also for making timely payments to our many vendors and suppliers upon whose services we depend. In addition, Yolanda and her staff gather admission information, process insurance company claims, follow-u- p on patient questions, arrange payment schedules and answer general questsions about Medicare or other insurance coverage.
