Show Noritas Nook May 22, 1980 Memorial Day - a time for families By Norita Lancaster : Wanda Ison WALES- - Another holiday, usual, the date is wrong, ; , I ' ; ; ; , . . and as so we celebrate it on a different day, to suit our convenience. If we keep changing the dates around, by the year 2000, we really will be celebrating Christinas in July, and if the weather keeps on the way it has the past few years, it may very likely be fitting to do so in order to enjoy snow activities. Its getting to be such a topsy-turv- y world, that some day our children will have to use crossword puzzle clues to figure out the course of historical events, what, when and where they took dace, and why we celebrate them. This coming holiday is of course Memorial Day. We are celebrating it on Monday, even though the holiday is the following Friday. This particular holiday is set aside each year to honor our departed loved ones by decorating their graves with beautiful flowers, and for those who rendered service to their country, the addition of flags; a time for remembering and a time for families to be together. Let us be mindful, that no matter how small or how unimportant or even how great these loved ones may have seemed to us, they also left their historical mark on a page in the journal of time, by the very fact that they did live, breath, think, and set examples, whether for good or bad, as we too, are doing now. The famous will be rmembered for their deeds or misdeeds. What will we be remembered for, human kindness? Love and caring for our families, friends and neighbors? Or, confusing future historians with too many dates for the same holiday? They might even get the impression that all we ever did was plan feasts, celebrate, party and have fun. Have a good Memorial Day. This weeks featured cook is Wanda Ison of Wales. She is married to James Steven (J.S.) Ison. He prefers to be called Steven. They have three children; Shanna 5, Serena 4, and Shaleen 2. The Isons are newcomers to our area, having arrived in March, moving here from Snowflake, Ariz. They wanted to live in a small, peaceful, friendly community, and fell in love with Wales. Stevens parents decided to retire and settle here and soon Steven, Wanda, and their children followed. The are in process of building a new home. Since Wanda is from a small family and Steven is from a large family, several of whom are also living in wales, she says she is now enjoying the ' excitement and advantages bf a large family. She likes doing all kinds of Alts and craft projects, some sewing and needle work. She loves trying new recipes and cooking. She works at the Moroni Turkey Hatchery.
