Early in my career at KSL, I was told that I would never become a news anchorwoman due to technical aspects of my voice. My goal then was to overcome this negative objection. We can succeed if we want to. A former high school teacher in Salt Lake City, Miss Smoot left s education in her to accept the token woman job at KSL. I grew up in an era in which women were encouraged to become homemakers, nurses or teachers. The womens movement opened other options and I decided to take the risk. I realized fully that the only reason I was hired by KSL was because of my female status. That it was a was not a good reason--bstart. LAYTON Calling herself A microcosm of the womens movement, a television executive says the greatest contribution of modern day feminists is the expansion of career and lifestyle choices open to women. Margaret Smoot, a former anchorwoman and currently the public affairs director for KSL Television, encouraged women to take a risk and realize that only you know what can truly make you happy. Miss Smoot spoke at the breakfast for opening kick-of- f the Women and Baby Fair sponsored by Humana Hospital Davis North and Layton Hills Mall.
