Show DAVIS MARCH 12, 1986 REFLEX-JOURNA- Page District Music Festival honors By DONETA GATHERUM The North Davis District Junior High School Music Festival was held Thursday, Feb. 13 at Layton High School. Farmington, Kays-ville, North Layton. Central, North Davis and Sunset Junior High Schools participated in both instrumental and vocal music. District Festival students were selected from the junior high schools based on performances at the school level with only the best performing. Each student or student group was judged by a musician from outside the of some of district. Here is a p those schools participating: well-qualifi- re-ca- NORTH DAVIS A male quartet consisting of Chris Hoover. Willie Pace, Nolan Porter and Darren Carpenter received a ratingat the District music festival. A superior rating went to Scott Key for his French Horn solo. NORTH LAYTON North Layton Junior High was well represented at the District music festival. Those students who qualilied for the festival included Kyle Henderson. French Horn and sight reading: Brianne Chamber-laiviolin: Dale Clerk, violin: Jim n, Phelps. Baritone: Joana Losee, flute: Heather Welch, saxophone and oboe: Amy Betts, oboe: Kevin Kishamoto. trumpet: Wendi cello: Janel Wilsey. bass and piano: and Chad Harris, snare Bot-toml- y. drum. A saxophone quartet consisting of Laura Farrell. John Hopewell. Jared Mortenson and Shane Gros performed. North Layton was also represented with a string quintet comprised of Ginger Wyatts. Susan Berryman, Marty Harwood, Wendi Bottomly and Shannon Sears. North Layton's choral music department sent their Chamber Sin- gers who received a superior rating. The Boys Ensemble consisting of Jeff Johnson, Jim Phelps, Darwin Wittmuss, Cortney Christensen. Boyd Mark, Mike Lawrence, Shane Leslie. Tino Flores, Paul Harrison and Scott Gage and the Girls Ensemble that included Renee Yarman, Tara Walden, Cloe Hunt, Jeanne McKinstry. Lyndie Jones. Nicole Burdett, Kristi Mor- ris. Liz Farr. Brandi Arnold, Andrea Cheney and Carrie Mobley participated and performed well. North Layton vocal soloists were Jeanne McKinstry, Leah Catherine Losee, Connie Layton and Jennifer Best. Leslie Auger participated in the Zu-be- r, sight-readin- division. g CENTRAL DAVIS Two groups selected from the Central Singers, a choral performing group that practices each morning before school, received superior ratings at the District music fes- tival. Several individual soloists also received ratings. Mindy Hall received a superior in both vocal solo and sight reading. In the instrumental division, a brass quartet and a string quartet were judged superior, along with I Eric Palumbo for a violin solo. KAYSVILLE Boys ensemble, superior rating. April Sherman, Amy Allen, Anjanette Ashby, Janel Woolley, Heather Bauerle, LeAnne Love- less, Shauna Smuin, Celeste Ellggren, Koko Warner, Nathan 5 PO oa;c? LA Peck, Michael Miller, Brian Ingles. Girls ensemble, superior rating, Debi Pincock, Marisa Murdock, Malina Miller, Carol Hinckley, Dawnell Dickens, Janel Woolley, Eleas Horne. Heather Bauerle, LeAnne Loveless, Shauna Smuin, Jewal Hartley, Lori Larson. Vocal solos, April Sherman, Debi Pincock, Casey Loveland and Gavin Duckworth, who received a rating of I plus. Debi Pincock received an excel- lent on sightreading and Sandy Smith voval solo: piano solos were by Kim Bishop, excellent and Jane Stevenson, superior. Receiving superior ratings on their solos were Robert Marsden and Russell Hansen, cejlo: David Marsden, viola and Martha Thompson, violin: string quartet superior rating went to Martha Thompson and Circe King, violins: Robert Marsden, cello and David Marsden. viola. Other superior ratings went to Robert Cardon. clarinet solo: Robert Cardon, Brenda Anderson, Kristin Handley, Hilary Jones and Wendy Warner, clarinet quintet; BURTON ELEMENTARYS 105 fifth grade students performed "Our Country Tis last week to a standing room only audience of parents and friends. The musical play, written by Ruth Roberts, was directed by Ramona Porter. Fifth grade teachers are Nancy Fames, Jodi Heins, Royal Rigby and Georgette Kapas. Shown are, front from left. Jack Helgesen. Excellent ratings went to Doug Brewer, timpani solo: Fred Bartley, trombone solo; Amy Roberts, flute solo; Allison Dent, flute solo and Leland Talbot, trumpet solo. We will MEET or BEAT ANY PRICE! KJH Concert Band traveling Bv SUSAN STRINGHAM On Pen. 10 the Kaysvillc Junior High Concert Band traveled to va- rious elementary schools. The band selected two pieces to play. "Starwars Melody" and "Theme from Superman." FOLLOWING these selections students displayed and demonstrated individual instruments. Many elementary students were intrigued by the various sounds produced by each instrument. A short video followed.
