Show DAVIS NOVEMBER 13, 1985 REFLUX-JOURNA- sports It aint over til its over ANOTHER hero in the eventful game was defensive lineman Roger Horne, who was credited with stripping the ball away from Mountain View's quarterback which led to Davis winning touchdown. Horne described it again, Coach Dickson came into the huddle during the timeout and talked about stripping the ball loose. Chris (Card) then called a defense that put Trevor Hoskins at the nose and me at the tackle spot. All I can remember then is the - The Kaysville KAVSV1I.I.H Jr. Pee Wee football team finished an undefeated season this past week by beating Ogden in the Wasatch Front Football League Mini Howl championship game. The score was They were led by the passing of quarterback T ler Heath and the rushing of full back Cole Stephens. and has caught a touchdown pass in every game but one. IN THE championship game Ogden had two men on Willard on every play and Heath was not able to get him the ball deep. Kaysville scored the first four times they had the ball and led 27.-- 0 with just over four minutes left in the first half. They had 308 yards in total offense to minus 6 for Ogden. By then Kaysville had cleared the bench and every boy was able to contribute to the win. The offensive line was led by Mack Robinson, Dax Pond, and Heath Montgomery. The defensive line was led by Ryan Kirkpatrick, Kirk Peterson, a Michael Richardson. Greg Emery and Jared Johnson played well on defense. 45-1- d ominated the game from the first play on. They had 514 yards in total offense with Stephens getting 116 by himself. They had 231 in passing. Kevin Hyde had 64 yards rushing and 101 in receiving. Craig Thomassen had 62 yards rushing and 63 in receiving. Blaine Couser had 33 yards rushing and 31 in receiving. Couser is the leading scorer on the team with 14 touchdowns for the year. Ryan Willard was held to only 36 yards in receiving. He has been the leading receiver this year MttWaVrrr THE BALL was just right there when lhit him so I stripped it away. Card may have been the only other player who really knew what had happened and if 1 hadnt got the ball, he may have. So after I had the ball, Chris tore out and threw a good block but their running back had stayed back and he brought me down." Ive recovered fumbles before after stripping balls away, but Ive never actually taken it right out of ball. But he must have thought I was going into the back of the end zone, said Willard. Two plays had been called in the huddle before Chris caught the pass that gave us a first down. The second play was a pass out of bounds to stop the clock, but as I turned around Clay noticed me and hit me with the pass. I couldnt believe the cornerback played me like he did because I was expecting to get hit the very minute I caught the quarterback trying to sneak it and me and Trevor hitting him at the same time. Continued from previous pg. LIKE MOST teams from Kaysville, this team runs the Davis High double wing offense. This offense has averaged over 38 points per game while the defense has given up just seven points a game. Ogden never was able to figure out where the ball was, which made it easy to get a lot of yards. Coach Kyle Stephens said that this is the best team he has ever coached. They have more size and by far more speed than any team in the league. The coaches didn't have to do much except tell them to run. There was a lot of talent on this team. Coach Dave Heath This is by far the most agreed: talented team I have coached in the past five years. They would have beaten any team I have seen in the past five years. It would be fun to watch this team play our Mini Bowl Champion team of 1982. (That team was led by Brad Gardner and John Rhodes, and went undefeated TROJANS ON TOP also. " The Kaysville Trojans finished the fall soccer season in first place. The members of the Utah Youth Soccer Association team are from Kaysville, Fruit Heights, Farmington and Clearfield, and are coached by Kit Finlinson and Carlos Amorim.
