WILLIAM S. Rybicki, a counselor in the Weber State counseling center said that most men are afraid of and dont want to de-- ; velop the feeling side of fatherhood, but he said that, with the evolving nature of the family unit, change is imperative. If women are becoming more work oriented, then men have to Dr. become more emotional, Rybicki said. MOST MEN avoid those kind of changes, he said, and it will almost have to be a life or death issue for them to do it. Men dont want to give up that power, he said. He noted that, because of the womens movement, men are allowing and even encouraging their wives to have careers or jobs of their own. Men, however, are reluctant to adapt their roles to fill some of the void created when the mother leaves the home. The assumption has been that the womans role can change, but the mans does not, but you cant have changes in one without changes in the other. He continued, If you want the wife to have a job the man has to be HE SAID, ' tough work and in order to develop that emotional side men have to be willing to give up something in the achievement area. He said, The traditional father sees himself more as an authoritative figure, but he should develop his own capacity to be emotional in constructive ways, something as basic as knowing how to listen, willing to take some of those responsibilities and Im not just talking about vacuuming the front room. THE WSC counselor said that fatherhood provides the best avenue for a man to develop his emotional relationships, and that such development benefits both the man and the child. Somehow men have to get out of the idea that work and achievements are the definition of success, he said. THAT, HE said, will bring deeper love between the father and child and encourage more individuality. The child and family benefit when the father is capable of being he said. an emotional provider, DR. RYBICKI explained that the emotional side of relationships is President Reagans tax reform proposal needs some reforming itself to prevent it from creating more unemployment. Taking into account the amendment or repeal of several different tax incentives and financing methods now available to home buyers, economists estimate that housing starts will decline by 95,000 and multifamily housing starts will fall by about 230,000 units during the first year under the reform plan. The result? The elimination of about 350,000 jobs in the construction and related industries. single-famil- kqXiininaixJ thesam(20X)uiKls. Hot bath water can dehydrate your skin and strip it of its natural oils, so its best to bathe in warm water instead. Thats especially true in winter, when cold winds and dry air can make your skin drier than it is at any other time of year.
