James M. Johnston III will replace Col. James F. Record as commander of the 388th Tactical Fighter Wing at Hill Air Force Base, the Air Force has announced. THE CHANGE of command will take place during a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 23. Col. Johnston is currently commander of the 58th Tactical Training Wing at Luke Air Force Base in Arizona. He was born in Stamford, Tex. on Jan. 19, 1940, and graduated from Anton High School in Texas in 1957. He later graduated from the Texas Technological University in Lubbock, completed the Air Command and Staff College in 1972, and graduated from the National War College at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C. in 1982. FOLLOWING his commissioning as a second lieutenant through the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps in April 1962, he was assigned to Webb Air Force Base, Tex., where he received both primary and basic pilot trainHe served ing in the 7 and with the 516th Vietnamese Fighter Squadron at DaNang, Republic of Vietnam, and flew more than400 hours in 231 combat missions over North and South Vietnam. Hillier, Layton, an instructor at Sunset Junior High. Virginia Ord, of Bountiful, a Millcreek Junior High instructor, was also involved. THE TWO week session, Science for Technology and Society is supported by the National Science Foundation. New curriculum are developed, papers written and plans made for professional presentations.
