His “Covenant” concerns the events surrounding the introduction of polygamy into the LDS church. Set in Nauvoo, Ill., in the mid1800s, the story tells of Mormon prophet Joseph Smith receiving a revelation that tells him he must implement a doctrine of plural marriage, a practice that is at odds with his upbringing. The play follows the conflicts Smith has between his personal faith and his duty to his God as well as his commitment to obey revelations received from his God and love for his wife, Emma. Paxton has master’s degree in English, creative writing/dramatic literature from Brigham Young University and a master’s in theater and playwriting from UNLV. The public is invited to the readings without charge, but donations are appreciated.
