Show A10 - The Sait Lake Tribune Monday, May29, 1995 Harvard Student, 20, Kills Roommate, Hangs Herself THE ASSOCIATEDPRESS CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Screams andsirensshattered the Sunday morning peace at Har- vard University when a pre-med student stabbed a roommate to death and wounded a guest, then hanged herself in a bathroom at a dorm knownforits eclectic inhabitants. Many students emerged in tears, and most refused to talk about the attack in the Dunster House dorm, described by an aide to the housemaster as ‘the weirdest house on campus.” The attacker was identified as Sinedu Tadesse, 20, of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Friends said Tadesse had seemed anxious as the academic year cameto anclose. “I saw her last week and she seemed quite frustrated in thelibrary studying and sort of had a glazed look on her face,” said a fellow pre-med student First Assistant District Attorney Martin Murphy said Tadesse shared one room of their tworoom suite on the building's second floor with 20-year-old Trang Ho, a Vietnamese native. Both were juniors. Thao Nguyen, 26, was visiting Hoandsleepingin the other room when she was awakened by sounds of a struggle, Murphy said. He said she saw Tadesse stabbing Ho. Murphy said Nguyen tried to intervene and was stabbed herself, so she ran to the courtyard for help. Authorities said the weapon was a knife with a blade that folds into a wooden handle, but declinedto release further details until Monday. Ho was pronounced dead at Cambridge Hospital. Nguyen was treated for superficial stab wounds andreleased. Murphy said Tadesse ran into the bathroom, barricaded the doorand hangedherself. She died later at a hospital. Authorities declined to speculate about a motive, though they said there were no signs of problems between the roommates. Karel Liem, an icthyology professor and housemaster at Dunster,said both womenwere in extremely good academic standing. The school’s newspaper, The Harvard Crimson, said Sunday night that it had received a note and a photograph,believed to be of Tadesse, on Tuesday. “Keep this picture. There will soon bea very juicy story involving the personin this picture,” the typewritten note said. After the stabbings, the paper contacted Harvard police, who recovered the note, envelope and photo from a garbagebin outside the newspaperoffice. “It’s just one other piece of information weare trying to factor in,” said John Towle, spokesman for the district attorney's office.
