With some nominating conventions finishing up on the Monday night deadline the slate shows there will be a number of newcomers in city offices come January. Only two mayors in the six North Sanpete communities are seeking Lynn Cook Spring Moroni fills ticket Candidates for a mayor and two city councilmen were nominated Monday evening at the Republican mass meeting held at 8 p.m. in the City Hall. Nominated for mayor was Chad G. Christiansen. Mr. Christiansen Christiansen moved to Moroni from Hunter 12 years ago. He is a general contractor. Active in the LDS Church, he has served as Elders Quorum President a counselor in the Sunday School, and was an explorer leader for five years in Hunter. He has taught Sunday School for 20 years. He has shown an interest in politics and good government. He is married to Fern Bushong and they are parents of four children and eight grandchildren. Mr. Cook Nominated as city councilman was Lynn Cook. Lynn is a native of Fountain Green, but has lived in Moroni since his graduation from' Brigham Young University in April of 1974 with a Bachelor of Science Degree Blackham of Moroni. They have two children, Christopher and Emily. Lynn has bought a turkey operation and is now raising turkeys. He enjoys the people of Moroni and is interested in the growth and development of a better community for all concerned. Mr. Root Also nominated as city councilman was Robert (Bob) Root, owner and operator of the Big R Family Drive Inn in Moroni. He and his family have recently moved here from California. He is married to the former Ruby Ann Quinn. They are parents of eight children, (seven daughters and one son) ; and have 10 grandchildren. He is presently a Seventy in the LDS Church. He graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City and has also attended Henagers Business College, LDS Business College and the University of Utah. He served in the Navy during world War II where he was a production control engineer. He worked as a Wholesale Produce Jobber and potatoe processor on the Los Angeles market for 18 years. He was also an egg producer for Safeway Stores and Olsen Bros, in Southern California, as well as a wholesale beverage distributor in San Bernardino. He franchised three Dairy Queens and one Chicken to Go in Southern California. in Psychology. Active in LDS Church affairs, Cook has served an LDS mission to the British South, has been a counselor in the Elders Quorum Presidency, Sunday School teacher, and is presently Priesthood Venture Advisor in the Moroni West Ward. He is married to the former Nora $43,485 Mr. Eicher Ray D. Eicher, 52, is retired from the U.S. Civil Service where his major employment for 22 years was with the United States Bureau of Indian Affairs. He held several positions including that of Agency Superintendent where he administered programs for the branches of Education, Natural Resources, Welfare, Road Maintenance, Employment Assistance and Safety and .Housing. Other positions held included Soil Scientist, Land Operations Officer, and Natural Resource Specialist. Eicher attended Ohio State University and graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor degree in Agronomy. He was born in East Cleveland, Ohio, and served in the U.S. Army in World War II in the South Pacific Theater. He is married to the former Rena Sinclair of Park City, and they have three sons. An active member of the LDS Church he has been Elders Quorum President, Branch President, District President and Councilor in the New Mexico-ArizonMission. He was born and raised in Fairview, is a graduate of Brigham Young University and taught school in Fair-vieMt. Pleasant, Moroni, Magna and Washington state. From 1953 to 1970 he was in the insurance business in Sanpete and then in Utah County. For three years Miner owned and operated Miners Mobile selling and servicing mobile homes, campers, trailers, etc., in Price, and he also owned a trailer court in Helper. During the summers he was teaching school, he worked in the timber and lumber business, and he is a farmer and livestockman. He is a charter member of the Fairview Junior Chamber of Commerce and served two terms as an officer. He served two terms as City Councilman under Mayors Keith S. Hansen and Otis Nielsen, one at the time of the Centennial celebration in 1959. He is a member of the Fairview Lions Club where he has held an office for the past two terms. Miner is a High Priest in the Fairview South Wark, has worked in the Sunday School and MIA as well as music and choir director. Other new office seekers will be battling for council seats in other communities. Robert Jackman and Jay Lamb will be vying for the Walt's mayor post with Byron Davis, Terry Merrill and Newell grant awarded Fairview This week, Senators Jake Garn and Orrin Hatch announced that the AdEconomic Development ministration has awarded three grants to locations in the state of Utah. One of those grants for $43,485 went to the City of Fairview, to be used for wells and water lines. Funds are to be used to help build public facilities and create jobs in area of high unemployment. The programs goal is to provide an immediate economic stimulus through the construction of capital facilities, but most of the projects will provide additional long-terbenefits in support of economic and community development.
