Show Choates Bakery Pink Day Attraction By Mary ImlEEkEMSW Dickinson After several years of retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Choate are going back into the Bakery But if youre business. not in the right place at the right time you will miss both their Grand Opening and Going Out of Business sales. The right place to be to taste delicious sweet rolls, pies, and homemade bread is Pink Day in the Fillmore City Park on June 7 from 4 p.m. to 7 in the evening. The Fillmore Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary (Pink Ladies) is proud to announce a bakery in the park as an added attraction to their annual fund raising event. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Choate of Kanosh will be helping their daughter, Mrs. Nadine Perkes, in her capacity as bake sale chairman. Mr. Choate began baking during World War I at the age of 16. After his discharge, he went to work in Death Valley as a cook and was told many times, "Youre a terrible cook, but you sure can bake. When the opportunity arose to buy a bakery, he and his wife. Melvin and Edith Cox, Orrin and Elma spent a few days this week at their homes in Meadow cleaning, repairing and planting. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Stott are proud to announce the arrival of a little, new granddaughter born to their daughter, Colette Mitchell. Clifton and Laura Beckstrand accompanied their grandson. Kennan Beckstrand, son of Mr. man offered him a bakery as part of a grocery store in California. Hemet, The Choate's opened this bakery and stayed for 15 years. The Los Angeles Farmers Market, famous for its fine foods, hired Mr. Choate and after a few years he again owned his own bakery. After World War II, the family owned a bakery just around the block from their residence in Los Angeles. The Choates reputation continued to grow and many offers came to open bakeries throughout California. Southern For a time they were operating a highly successful doughnut shop in a bakery in Lakewood, Whittier, as well as a bakery in LaMirada. with Along running successful businesses, the Choates were busy raising three daughters and a son and serving in community and church affairs. At a recent family reunion, their daughter, Nadine, helped compile a family history which has been published for the family.
