At the beginning of the year the committee meets with the Mayor and City Council and decides what is best for the future development of the town. Always, there is the problem of money. Small towns have very little funds for extra development, but the committee helps to raise funds by getting help from special projects. Most of the projects which we have completed in our new North Park have been done with money we have won and money donated bv private citizens. Pictures of the different projects should show the beginning of the project during the time it is being completed and the completion of the project. Groups such as the groups. FFA. and Future Homemakers can help the person who makes the scrapbook if they take pictures, which can be used in the scrapbook by the tow n as well as their own scrapbooks. One department is Human Relations and Cultural Enrichment. Under this section comes the treatment and cure of alcoholism, the prevention of the youth from smoking pot or dope of any type. This means we should have an active committee who try to get the youth involved in worthwhile projects in order that they will not get involved in undesirable habits. Each town should organize a Community Civic Arts Council, such as we have in Fillmore and everyone should support it and help w ith its projects, as the main purpose of this council is to help each member develop the many talents with which each of us is blessed. Also under this category come art exhibits, touring performances of drama, music, dance, lyric opera, arts and crafts exhibits, workshops in the arts, improved library facilities, senior citizens council, books published by the DUP, and good relations between schools and citizens. Under Economic Development comes Chamber of Commerce, industrial development group, industrial park, and dean environment. Next comes physical environment, which includes the improvements made at the airport, a shade tree commission, the development of our parks, the supervision of trailer courts, hotel and motel accomodations, swimming pool, street lights, streets, and sidewalks. Community Services include ambulance service, fire department, police protection. gargage disposal, sewer system, water supply, and water storage facilities. The last department is Youth Involvement. We have excellent youth involvement and, this year, we have had Lynette Davies attend a National Youth Conference in Texas which stressed the involvement of youth in the discovery of new sources of energy and the conservation of present sources. The only way the energy problem will be solved is to get youth involved since they are the ones who w ill be out ot the present sources ot energy. I am heartily in favor of these programs as it keeps us all alert and interested in helping to make a better world in which to live. am hoping every citizen in Our Town" will become personally involved in this program.
