Barton Pvt. Wilson graduates PVl Catherine C. Wilson, Fillmore, has completed her basic training (WAC) at Fort Jackson, S.C. She graduates today, August , in ceremonies at the fort. Pvt Wilson was chosen as a squad leader in her platoon, a position she held during training. During the training, she qualified with the rifle. Pvt Wilson is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William V. Wilson, a granddaughter of Jane Wilson, Fillmore, and Erna Sinclair, Tucson. Family members who plan to be at the graduation ceremony are cousins John and Leah McBride, Columbia, S.C. Graduation ceremonies will be integrated with male trainees. Pvt Wilson's basic training will be the last WAC class. Women will be taking basic combat training with males starting next cycle. Pvt Wilsons next assignment will be AIT training in Public Information at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. She will be released from active duty about Thanksgiving. 1 1 Treasurers report Helen M. Millard Rogers, County Treasurer, announces that Millard County earned $39,897.50 in interest on statement savings for the first two quarters of the calendar year 1977. Funds in five bank accounts have been placed in savings and sufficient sums transferred to checking accounts to cover the cost of county payrolls. This procedure is followed the first day of the month for personnel payrolls for county general and road programs and again during the month for other expenditures for county general and road programs. This procedure allows a maximum amount to be left in savings until needed. Any issuance of checks in between payrolls is also noted, also deposits made on additional receipts are placed in savings. Millard Treasurers County funds which involve primarily Assessors Collections of personal property taxes are also placed in savings to earn interest for the Mrs. Rogers has also county. placed current tax collections and other treasurers collections in this savings account. niring the year 1976, three means of earning interest was followed by he Treasurer: placing funds in Time Certificates of Deposit, transferring amounts of less than $100,000.00 to the State Treasurer for him to place with State Treasurer funds in Time Certificates, and when interest dropped on Time Certificates, placing the funds in Statement Savings. To place funds in Time Certificates. an approximate figure needed for payrolls has been estimated by the Treasurer, and thus a maximum cannot be utilized. Time Certificates have been issued for 60 days, 90 days and 180 days, etc. Since the savings program was in started I960, a total of interest has been $264,600.65 earned to help finance county programs. Both county general and road funds arc utilized. The savings program in Millard County was started by Mrs. Rogers at the suggestion of County Commissioner Leigh Maxficld. The program requires the cooperation of all county officials working with funds, the County Treasurer, who receives the funds, the County Clerk Auditor, who oversees the budget, and to a great otent, the County Commissioners, who must decide on county program expenditures. Banks located in Millard County have cooperated in the work required in the savings program, Mrs. Rogers also said. New AST SFC Clayton R. Barton, Pahvant, is the new Administrative Supply Technician at the Fillmore National Guard Armory. Sgt. Barton is replacing Staff Sgt. Phil Robison who resigned to accept a position with the Southern Utah State College at Cedar City, Utah. Sgt. Robison is in charge of student housing there, but will remain in the Guard and will return to Fillmore for drills with the local unit. A career man with the Army National Guard, Sgt. Barton has been in the Guard for 14 years. He spent one year at Price, Utah as AST (Administrative Supply Technician) with Company A, 1457th Engineer Battalion upon entering the Guard in 1963. He transferred to Washington State where he was AST for the 116th Medical Battalion for years, subsequently transferring to Okanogan, Wash, where he spent another year in the AST position full time for the 881st Transportation Company. The next seven years were spent with Detatchment 1, 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry Regiment in Spokane, Wash, where he was transferred in 1968. During his years in the Guard he has risen from the rank of Buck Sergeant to First Sergeant and was top kick to 167 men in the 161st Infantry Regiment. A Commendation Medal was presented to Sgt. Barton at Spokane for capturing the thieves and recovering a stolen Army Jeep with a 106 mm Recoiless Rifle mounted on it. Sgt. Barton has also seen active duty in both the U.S. Navy and then in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War where be rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. He wears a lot of fruit salad" on his chest and has 4 battle stars earned during the Korean War. The Bartons returned to Utah two years ago and Sgt. Barton was back with the 1457th Engineer Battalion until his recent transfer to the local unit, Detatchment 1, C Battery, 2nd He Battalion, 222nd Artillery. started his new full time duties last Monday. Bart, as he is known by his friends, his wife, Marjorie, and son, Forrest, 16, live in Pahvant on a farm they purchased in partnership with Mrs. Bartons parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude W. Marble, formerly of American Fork, Utah, lhe Bartons and Marbles both have built new homes since their arrival here two years ago. Mrs. Barton and Forrest are both employed at the Millard County Progress and Mrs. Barton is also the East Millard County reporter for the Salt Lake Tribune.
