The members of my newly organized Group 14, Fillmore Teen Angels, are just entering the interesting path whieh leads them to a better understanding of our wonderful world. Nature is so lavish in her gifts to us. No country in the world was so endowed with a lavish supply of the natural resources of this world, than was America, but man has greedily squandered these resources, giving little if any, thought for future generations and their needs. liven though many of us have 20-2- 0 vision, we fail to see the beauty whieh surrounds us every day.jior do we understand mans role as steward of all creation. Although man has reached the moon, he still doesnt know exactly how a tree lives and grows. Unless we take more time to teach our children about the balance in Nature, the necessity for the wise use of our natural resources, how to plant and care for the foods w hich are necessary to insure a healthy, happy race of people, the standard of living for future generations will be much lower than the type we enjoy today. Our creator gave us muscles to use, and unless we do use become them and useless; they flabby one of the very best ways to have healthy strong muscles is to work in a garden. Every muscle in the body is needed in order to make the rows in w hich we plant the seeds, and later water, cultivate and harvest our produce. Even though we have an office job. we have plenty of time to work in a garden, at least an hour each day. Working in the open air relaxes our muscles, helps our blood to circulate and helps us to appreciate what a farmer has to do to earn a living. Then too if each family has a garden, the children can be taught early in life, how to care for growing plants. Those children who have helped raise food seldom waste it but those who never have any idea how much labor it takes to grow the food they cat each day. are more inclined to waste precious meals. My main reason for organizing these groups of Teen Angels is to teach them to appreciate the beauties which are ours to enjov if we just open our eyes to the wonder of Mature, and to teach them their part in conserving our Natural resources. and girls expccially of Boys High School age. should be taught to appreciate the balance in Nature, and the value of such things as grass, shrubs, trees and even weeds, in helping to furnish us with pure air. Plants remove carbon dioxide from the air and give off oxygen. The air of large cities contains much less oxygen than docs the air we breathe in the country, since the cities are composed of pavement and tall buildings, while we are surrounded by green grass, shrubs and trees. We teach all of the facts to my Teen Angels together with many other subjects such as the Element? and Principles of design, color, and its uses, types of soils necessary to sustain life, as well as how to have a clean beautiful community. Our creator of birds us many gave types to help get rid of the insects which devour our crops and beautiful Powers. When we do not plant trees, shrubs and nesting places for our birds, we soon have an influx of insects. Each type of bird has a different function in Nature. Some birds rid the bark of trees of the insects whieh destroy this bark, some eat insects whieh destroy the foliage of our plants, swallows and swifts sweep the air clean of insects while still others such as robins eat tne worms, birds also bring happiness to us through their songs and bright colors Hitting through the leaves. Teen Angels have a healthy respect for keeping the balance in Nature, some of mv first grouns arc married and have children of their own who arc being taught some of the lessons learned by their mothers when they were Teen of Mr. and Mrs. Merlin W.
