The 2nd Battalion of the 222nd Field Artillery recently received the Milton A. Reck-or- d Award for outstanding achievement in 1974. Flements of the 222nd. in Cedar City. Beaver. St. George. Fillmore. Manti and Richfield each submitted the results of inspections, training and community support operations to the eighth U.S. Army Readiness Region and were judged the best artillery battalion in the Western States. Battalion Commander Jim Miller said the batteries of the 2nd battalion have won numerous other awards, but the Reckord Award is the first received as a Battalion. Ritle and marksmanship are a way of life for members of D Company 15th Fnginecr Battalion in Mt. Pleasant. Later this the month, the company will be Plaque Trophy from National Guard Bureau. To qualify, the company had to have the highest percentage of men qualifying as marksmen with a rifle. Of the 90 men in D Company, only two dont have their Expert Rifle badge. Five members of the company are in Little Rock, Ark., now participating in the Wilson team match as members of the Utah rifle team. The 229th Communication .Hight of the Utah Air National Guard has added another trophy to its case. For the second straight ' year, the unit has won the Communications. Electronics and Meterological Plaque which signifies outstanding achievement for 1975. The 229th handles air traffic control for the Range Complex. There are 50 men in the flight, 23 of which are full time air traffic controllers. This recent picture was taken on one of our recent jaunts to beautiful Pine Lake. It is located just a fexv miles from Bryce Canyon. It makes for a nice fall trip stopping first at Pine Lake and then on to Bryce. There is a nice campground at the lake. One rather unusual feature of the Lake is that for such a its xvarnt high elesation. enough to enjoy canoeing. In some parts, its so clear it looks like there really isn't am water.
