The exuberance of youth and the dedication towards an individual and group goal was very at our recent track evident Last Thursday, Millard meet. High School hosted the Region Women's Track Meet, with the Hagles achieving victory. There were manv evidences of pride, spirit, and dedication to a cause from these young ladies. Such standouts as the Keel i irls. Laurie and Sydney, Wendv lavne, Sandy Gross, and mam others made all of us feel very proud. lint the one shining example of total dedication to a cause emerged with a beautiful young Navaio girl from our school. This young lady liad literally been sick in iter bed for the belter part of the week prior to the meet. She had been a stellar jierformer prior to this. All apitearances showed that she would not be able to run Iter socialities, the mile and the 880 yard run, the two most gruelling races in womens track. The coach felt she should only try to run only on so tliat she might at least qualify for the state meet. The decision was made to run just the mile race and try to place fourth to qualify. This young lady almost staggered to the starting blocks with the marks of illness in her face. She drew an outside lane which placed iter chances of placing in the race very remote. The race, four times around the trackcon-tinue- d with our heroine fightThen a ing to uist hold on. miraculous tiling took place. Everyone began to cheer heras she passed the stands for Iter final lap. As if to not let tier classmates down or herself, new life sprang to her She began to wobbly legs. sprint and catch up with the other girls, to the cheers of the crowd. As she came the final curve she had come behind to capture second place in the event. Tills, in itself, was a fitting climax to a great amoung of desire for a cause, hut the story does not end here. I, myself, only wished she could have taken first and lieen rewarded with the beautiful track and field medals which a victory. The race for the 880 yard run was soon on the docket. She surely shouldn't run this race in her condition, but to everyones surprise the young Indian girl showed up. She showed up not mst to qualify for state, but to A glance into win the race. her eyes made me know she ment to win, not place. As the starting pistol echoed the races start, she quickly broke into the lead and widened it with every stride. The race was not even a contest. She had won. In the process, she had won not just a race, but ' CHRIST-ense- n and family presented a program in opening exercises in Sunday School. The theme of their presentation was Lessons our family have learned through reading the scriptures.
