Corn will also be taboo as bait. Your scribbler gets the reaction of folks we see along the way as being aboutnineoutof ten in favor of these changes, especially the ban on chumming, though several of you have asked a couple of questions. One of these was why chumming was legalized in tl.first place and the other, why the change? The changeto allow chumming taken a dozen years ago primarily at the requestof our wildlife law enforcement peopie. They claimed an irate public demanded that the thenillegal chumming be stopped and this was something they were finding difficult to do try as they would to gather the needed evidence to ge* a conviction in court. There were no known biological reasens then, and none now in-so-far as we know, to show that chumming was detrimental to the fish. However, the world changes and so must our habits. And todays world looks askance at throwing anything in our waters (let alone broadcasting a gallon of corn), at littering or pollution of any kind. Thus the pressures for a ban on chumming and thepositive response by the five man Wildlife Resources Board. All of which leaves one wondering how much difficulty there will be in enforcing the new law as we go back to the old status of things? We predictthatthere will be less of a problem if only because a greater percentof us are wishful for a clean landscape and clean water.
