We want for young people everywhere health — physical and mental, the skills of hand and mind to master change, the ability to get along with others, integrity and selfdirection, inner strength and stability, the capacity to relate creatively to others and toa reality greater than themselves.I sincerely believe the scouting program will develop these characteristics and competencies in our leaders for tomorrow. Scouting not only helps to build boys into men, but it makes the whole community a better place in which to live by directing youthful energy. Wherever community leaders meet they haveat their disposal this great cementing force—their dedication and common devotion to young people. In this common devotion lies a powerful instrument. With it we can harness our priceless good will. With it we canutilize our’great ‘‘Boypower-Manpower”’ Scout programs to build for us future leaders we can depend upon and in whom we can trust our God-given heritage. eyotineSyJenmn &'e A Deck Of Cards =~ AndReligion * in, He then proceeded to read the story of which I'mreferringto. We can expect tensionto be with us for some time.In all countries life is changing swiftly. Some people strongly insist on keeping old institutions, the old ways. Others are strongly resisting them. Relevancy—or the lackofit, is listed as @ main cause of dissent among young people. It seems the young have intuited something about their needs and the future that most adults have not been able to perceive. Under these circumstances, tension \s boundto arise, Can welearn to master this tension? Can we makeit work for us instead aflettingit destroy us?I believe we can.
