Show MOTOR CARS AS EALS OF ELECTRIC OREGON SHORT LINE PLANS TO IMPROVE SERVICE AS FAR AS PRESTON early next month unless present plans miscarry important changes will be made in the train schedule ot of tho the oregon short line between salt lake city and ogden and brigham city the change will mean a better service between the three towns with a reduction in the fare are four motor cars have been ordered and are arc due to reach salt lake city late this month monta or the early part of oe next month As soon as possible after they arrive they will be put in ser eer vice between this city and brigham city in competition with the two clec cec lines which are now being operated one from salt lake city to ogden and the other from ogden to brigham city the new cars it Is claimed will be capable of a speed of seventy miles an hour and are said to be of the quick stop and quick start type so that little time will be lost at the various stations the passenger between this city to points north of ogden as far as brigham city will not be compelled to change cars at ogden as under the two electric systems now in operation it is said that the new motor car service will not interfere with the present steam trains but will be an additional service telegram the above bit of news will undoubtedly be interesting to residents of this city and those living south of brigham the action to be taken by the short line is simply in line with a policy outlined some months ago even before the franchise asked for to run their tracks up to main street in this city was rejected by the city council but because the railroad is not in the habit of making pledges in black and white in franchises these promises could only be made verbally which they were were done to the mayor and other citizens of this city our forefathers had a habit of offering bonuses to railroads and other public utilities in order to get them tor for the benefits derived from the ex istance of such concerns in a community cannot be estimated beahe by the new order of t things which will give give brigham city increased railway conveniences ve why would it not be a good thing tor for the council to reconsider its action of some weeks ago and tender to the short line a franchise to come up town in order that the passenger service for this city might be that much better by having the cars run into and out of the heart of the city will mean that more people will visit brigham and those who do not stop off will at least have the opportunity to see something of our town boost for the interests of brigham city first last and all the time and never turn down a good thing the other fellows will always take care of themselves |
