Show MOVEMENTS OF BREAU STUFFS decreased receipts of wheat at leading 1 interior markets alla smaller shipments of flour ai aru fit to leading features ot of the commercial movement men t ot of breadstuffs bread stuffs during january tot of the present year as reported by the bureau or of statistics of the department part ment of commerce and labor for abe first time also the monthly ekpo expo exports r ts of wheat were less in quantity than the exports ot of corn grain receipts during january at 15 important markets bushels show but little variation from the january figures of the preceding year and the january average tor for the preceding 5 year period the total in bound movement was made up lip of bushels of wheat bushels ot of corn bushels of oats bushels of barley and bushels of rye As compared with corresponding 1910 figures for the more important grains the receipts of corn oats and barley show larger totals while those of wheat show sharp decline from the corresponding monthly total it should te be stated though that this decline is not a peculiar feature of the january receipts As a matter of 0 fact wheat receipts for all the months ot of the current season beginning with september were lower than the year before indicating either heavier receipts at the smaller markets tor for which no official reports are had or else larger stocks in the hands of the producers the decrease may be said to affect almost equally the spring wheat and the winter wheat markets wheat receipts at these markets for the five months ot of the present crop period fell more than 20 per cent short of like receipts during the 1909 10 season and about 13 per cent of the average receipts during the same period tor for the preceding five crop seasons the corn receipts at fifteen interior markets for the five months bushels were heavier than tor for the same periods in the preceding five seasons the larger receipts for the current season corresponding to the larger export demand at tho the atlantic ports the five months receipts of oats bushels were larger while those of barley bushes than for the preceding season reason the total grain receipts during tile the f die lie months period since september wore were bushels compared with bushels for the same period last year year and an average of over million bushels for the preceding five year period the january shipments of flour dour from thirteen centers barrels likewise show an unfavorable turn as compared with th figures ot of the preceding months and the corresponding january 1910 tow total the month witnessed increased receipts of corn at the tour four principal atlantic ports bushels compared with bushels received during january 1910 and 5 bushels received during january 1909 wheat receipts at the four atlantic ports totaled only bushels compared with 2934 bushels received in january 1910 and bushels received in january 1909 the exports at those these ports show I 1 ins ng corresponding declines As a in matter atter of tact fact of the total domestic exports of wheat for the month bushels almost 75 0 o was sh shipped dipped from the pacific ports the exports from portland oregon and puget sound points leading those from any other custom district both tor for the month as well as for the cumulative period since july 1910 it should be stated though that the seven months wheat exports for the present 11 fiscal year bushels were practically only one third of the average seven months exports tor for the preceding five year period the largest shrinkage in the wheat exports Is shown by the gulf porte porta particularly particulars Y galveston and new Oi Ol leins the total flour exports lor for the seven months period ending january 1911 barrels were about 26 below b the average exports for the seven mo of the preceding five years yearb tha seven months flour exports from tl tlc alc e tour four leading atlantic ports are given as barrels compared with barrels in 1910 and barrels in 1909 the corn ex boits tor for the seven months period ot of the present fiscal year bushels were larger than in 1909 and 1910 and exceeded in quantity those ot of wheat though falling ailing considerably below like exports during the years prior to 1909 the exports of barley during the seven months ot of the present fiscal year bushels proceeded mainly from san francisco ard and chow a large gain over lika ex pots po ts in earlier years the value of all broad stuffs exported during ats seven months ot of the present year was showing a decline ot of 23 as compared gitil the figures for the preceding year and a loss of about 45 million dollars since 1906 notwithstanding the considerable sid erable rise in prices sine since that year |
