Show The Salt Lake Tribune Sunday November 17 1903 Ann Landers: Son Already Has Learned About Honesty and Integrity Dear Ann Landers: years ago when our son was eight years old he asked for a b i k e We couldn’t afford to buy him one so I suggested to Joey that he save his mon- He ran errands shoveled ey snow raked leaV’es and saved every nickel When Joey had saved Ann Landers the terrific sum of $53 he went out and bought the bike Two months later Joey was riding through the park at dusk and a big boy jumped on him from behind the bushes and grabbed his bike I was deeply concerned that Joey would figure if a bike could be gotten so easily why should he work and save for one When I asked him how he k felt he replied “I hope the boy who took my bike will take good care of it because I saved a long time to get it Now I’d better start to save for another bike before I'm too old to enjoy it" How can we teach our chil- dren that integrity and honesty pay off when the scoundrels in this world seem to do so well?
